Where are my fonts?

Recommended Posts

I recently formated my drives and installed CS5 for first time. I was trying to create the frame that I usually do when uploading pictures here, but the font that I use to write my name is not there. Not even something close to it.
Can someone point me in the right direction? The current selection of fonts in CS5 is about half of what I used to see in CS3. I can't see a single scrip typo of font.
Thanks

Yes I use PC and the fonts are in the control panel. The issue is that I don't have as many as I used to have. I have not installed MS office yet. Could this be the problem that CS5 use fonts that are on the computer regardless if they are from a different program?
Thanks

I have fonts. Both the control panel and C:\windows\font folder have the same fonts (since it pulls from the same place)
I believe I need to explain my self. Can someone with CS5 be so kind to see any of my pictures and look at the font that I use to sign on the frame and tell me if you have such font or similar on your copy of CS5?
I have a nice long list of fonts but not as many as before, at least not the one I used to have.
Thanks again

I would reinstall Office. Even if you don't want Office, you can uninstall it and its fonts will remain (they just of course won't last through a re-format).

I use Open Office and the font name above is not there. In Open Office it looks like 'Palace Script'. Whatever it is be sure to write the name down next time.

Fonts belong to the computer, not individual programs. All programs ship with a number of fonts from different sources, so you may wind up with 5 variants on Arial, for instance, all available to all programs unless some have been disabled. After a while the sheer number of fonts that have come in with different programs over-taxes the ability of the computer to load them in a reasonable time when booting up. Hence, there are utilities to control what the computer actually uses. It is easiest to go to that utility (Control Panel > Fonts in WIN 7); it will tell you if they are there, or disabled. Note this assumes the fonts are standard types; a program could presumably use an older or proprietary type that would only be available to that program.

Reinstalling MS Office may alleviate the problem. However, the font may have been installed with a prior installation of another program; for example Adobe Illustrator installs about 7 fonts, but there are generally more located on the install CD/DVD. You may want to check your old installation disks of Adobe products for additional fonts and install them manually.
