I wouldn't hesitate....The EC14 would give you an equivalent field of view of a 420mm f2.8. The EC20 a 600mm f4, but with some IQ degredation. Think I'd "settle" for the 1.4x.

Stunning lens is definitely the right description.

Held one at a show once. Stubby and chunky. Impressive optic indeed. Do you need to shoot at that range and speed wide open is what I would, I suppose, ask myself, (good deal notwithstanding.) Good deals are a timeless seduction for me too...
I doubt if there will be much regret, one of the Oly good guy optics. Hey, go for it, someone will always take it off your hands later on if your love falters. However do compare- in passing- with the versatility and specs of the highly rated 35-100 F 2., before you bite. Both are SHG. Both sell in similar price range when new. Depends on your shooting needs naturally. Reach needs of course.. Wrens on the treetops, you never can get long enough I am led to believe

It is a very handy lens because it is not that big and heavy and yet is good length and very fast. I had the 70-300 zoom, whcih has a great range, but is a bit slow. So I wanted a faster lens and thought about the 50-200 zoom but then decided to get the 2/150 when I also got a great deal on a new one. I have the 1.4x extender as well and I think it is essential to have at least one extender because otherwise the fixed focal length can be a bit limiting. It really is a great lens, and since it is not so big and heavy, it actually gets used. I doubt I would use the 2.8/300 that much, and it would be a real shame because it costs so much. If Olympus has really stopped developing new 4/3 lenses, as has been mentioned, it can be a matter of time when they stop making this entirely, as it surely is not a big seller. It is a quite unique lens, maybe similar to the 2/200 Canon and Nikon versions that are even bigger and more expensive. So don't wait, just go ahead. And yes, it balances very well with the E-3, a bit top heavy with E-620.

well.... i got it and it's sitting on my desk right now. i spent this afternoon taking pictures of pegs on the clothesline and i'm starting to fall in love with it already. i was looking at the database on pbase and it was the portraiture that finally convinced me (and the positive attitude in this thread also....grin) I'm getting a real good vibe with this lens, can't wait to put it to work

thanks for your interest folks, very much appreciated....
