New versions of Capture NX-D and View NX-i are available for download:

Capture NX-D version 1.3.0 - USA English Download

View NX-i version 1.10 - USA English Download

A few changes on Capture NX-D on menu bar and menus, I highlight a much more flexible Crop tool. Also included Auto Red Eye, excluded Fluorescent from White Balance converting already edited images as Use Gray Point, fixes some problem with D750 and D7200, and others.

On View NX-i is back the Adjustment pallete, as on View NX-2. But it hanged already on the first time I loaded it. I didn't test it.

Both support Windows 10.

I don't use V NX-i but I'll keep you updated if I find any problem with C NX-D.

I wonder why these two programs aren't merged into a single product

I like then separated. Capture is more for advanced users and may be Pros just to develop and export. View NX-i if for beginners, to browse, export to online and others media, and a little video editing.

View NX-i interface is not good, a lot of things I don't use, while C NX-D has just what you need. If they merge then, then will be a mess, IMO.

Added: To browse, catalog, manage, pos edit or adjustments with plugins (from Tiffs), export, I use the affordable ACDSee Pro.

Is the current View NX-i a direct replacement for earlier NX-2 versions

Not only is a replacement but it replaces the old version, there is no way to avoid it. If you are OK with View NX-2 better keep it, is faster and more stable, and NX-2, I think, also runs on Win 10 at least was ok on Win 8 (if you use Windows, of course).
If you want to try it and don't like it the only way to go back is uninstalling NX-i and install again NX-2. You have to have the installation file to do that.

I stopped updating after the last version of view nx3, it does everything that viewnx-i and cpture nx-d do together, and better for me that is0.
When i need more i still use the last version of capture nx2, but that will not work for ppl who use newer camera's..

C.P.M., I compare Capture NX-D with C NX-2 (except for the control points) but I think View NX-2 and NX-i is not the same as Capture, not even close. View NX has much less adjustments for a fine control.

I stop using C NX-2 with NEFs because it modifies on the NEF file, while NX-D uses the sidecar. I still use C NX-2 but only with TIFF files, sometimes.

Capture NX-D is working fine now, the only thing is that when the cache is clean and you are working on a folder with a lot of images is better wait to "Generate Cache" (look at the top right of the screen) before start to browse and edit, it may take a while depending on the number of pictures and the machine you are working. Besides that works fine.

Actually there is one thing with C NX-D, it does not reflects right on the preview the Noise adjustment so I avoid to use it. I shoot a lot at night on streets with high ISO, when needed I use Nik Define which I call from C NX-D as external editor already generating the final TIFF file, it does not works in batch process, but I can call a few at the same time on Nik Define checking each one and saving all.

Both of these new versions are running fine in my PC. Maybe it helped to increase the memory to 16G (from 8), set another disc for photos, update the bios and set the disks to use ahci. Even some folder shuffling did not get neither new versions down :-)
It seems to me that the disk and/or folder operations were causing part of the freezing with the View NX-i. In the previous version pair, the View NX-i took sometimes excessive time to update the thumbnail grid or strip with info on edits, keywording, labels and rating. It is much better now.

In my PC setup - 3.5Ghz, 6-core, now with 16G of ram and two disks (no ssd yet), win 7, the performance is good. In NX-d the NR is fast currently too and the preview shows the result, even if the better 2013 NR mode is selected.

If I want to do local edits, I still has the CNX-2 to do minor edits for tiff's saved from NX-d. This arrangement works even for newer camera types.
The sidecar file structure seems ok and NX-d user interface is handy to copy edits from one sample image to one or many similar. I am storing files in the nef format with sidecar file structure. When needed tiff's or jpg's are generated out.

Some issues currently:
NX-i: when double clicked the thumbnail in the grid, it does not get me to the preview mode, like it did in the previous version. Actually the preview mode emerges, but the selected image is not shown in the preview pane. Keyboard shorcuts are available to save this situation.
NX-d: in the preview mode, Ctrl+Alt+5 takes me to the 50% view, but Ctrl+Alt+1 does nothing. I am able to save this and go to the 100% view by Ctrl++ key shortcut. Not sure if some other program is intercepting the Ctrl+Alt+1.

In View-NX-i, when I double click on an image in the thumbnail display, it moves to a thumbnail strip + large image view but does not display the large image at first. If I click again on the thumbnail on the left, it still doesn't show the image. Then when I click on another image in the thumbnail strip, it will display a large image in the center. After that I can click again on the original image I wanted to see, and it will finally display it on the right. Other than that it seems to work correctly so far.

It so functions. After less than 10 minutes of waiting for the first image to appear, I found out that too. This is a bug, but users can bypass this easily.

Re bugs when clicking thumbnail. What I notice is that if you have full screen as default, the full screen mode opens but the image is blank. If you quickly click another thumbnail on the side and back, then it opens up.

True in here too. I supposed that double clicking a thumbnail in preview mode and in thumbnail grid mode would function in a similar way. Now when I know it does not do that - no problems.
I am going to test your suggestion Tom, thank you.
Currently, and finally I like this pair of Nikon programs.

What comes to a problem Adriano tells wrt. NR and NR result rendering: it might be just a question of PC power and recourses.

After reading you comment, that makes a lot of sense, I tried again looking for a setting on OS to fix it then I notice that is working alright, without any change. I think I was afraid to go on high value for NR settings. But still think is good for casual images, I have much more control with Nik Define, select colors, what area it will analyze, and so. Anyway thank you to make try again.

One thing took me a little while to understand on this new version of Capture NX-D is the zoom tool, it does not have a option for 100%, but I learn that with CTRLand Plus/Minus I can control the scale just fine, I think was always this way but never used the shortcuts.

Ok, this works for me. I will start using it and see what happens. ;-)

Actually, it is called Image Viewer mode vs. Full Screen. The latter has the problem (at least for USA English version).

Kari: "NX-d: in the preview mode, Ctrl+Alt+5 takes me to the 50% view, but Ctrl+Alt+1 does nothing. I am able to save this and go to the 100% view by Ctrl++ key shortcut. Not sure if some other program is intercepting the Ctrl+Alt+1."
Ctrl+Alt+1 works as it should for me. Does anyone know the difference between "Fit to screen" (Ctrl+Alt+0) and "Fit" with shortcut letter E ?? Both show as options when right clicking. They seem to do the same thing. Also, NX-D manual claims that shortcut E is a toggle between fitting the preview and zooming to 100%. It does no zooming for me. Strange little over-sites and quirks.
Also, in the new ViewNX-i at the bottom of the Edit Palette there is a Save icon. However, as far as I can see, all modifications as to image adjustments or metadata, automatically save to the sidecar file when the image is closed. It seems a hang-over from View NX-2 that was left by mistake.

NX-D doesn't run very well on my laptop with 32-bit Windows 10, a T8100 dual core processor and 4 G (only 3G usable) of RAM. The Task Manager shows the CPU is 98% busy and 70% of RAM is in use. It is slow and crashes frequently, especially when using the crop tool or running a .jpg batch conversion. Might have to buy something with more grunt! Any recommendations?

Neville, within a week a new NX-d version number 1.4 has beed released. Also a new verson for NX-i is availabe to download. Try those "updrades" first.
Actually Nikon recommends Intel class i5 or better. I did the PC upgrade as I had similar problems with a similar PC as you have. I tried first to increase the RAM to 8G in my laptop, but that did not lead to a satisfactory result.

The new version 1.4 (March 2016) has two big improvements, the Auto Retouch Brush Tools and the noise reduction is now reflecting on the Second Monitor. Noise Reduction on previous version were pure luck, it didn't reflect the real effect, I always turn it off and use Nik Define. Now is possible to fine tune, precise as it was on Capture NX-2.
