tom_hogner
I'm just curious.. are there any types of digital cameras where one could get an adapter to use an older Leica Thread Mount lens and still get infinity and full use of the lens?
I've pulled an old Leica kit from the closet and am trying to decide if there is any way to make use of the lenses beyond closet clutter... I'm guessing there is nothing I could use to adapt them to a DSLR of any type, but would one of the other mirror-less camera like a Sony Nex work? or would the distance to the sensor still be too far.

SCL
You could use them on a Leica M8 or M9 with infinity focus, of course. You could also use them on almost any micro 4/3 mount cameras. Here's a link to an active site with lots of discussion in the last half year on this topic. /www.rangefinderforum.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=146

leicaglow
Tom, Sorry I didn't see this post before. Yes, I bought a cheap adapter for my Nikon F mount (D200 and D700), and I can put a LTM lens on it. I think they are available for other cameras as well. I actually bought 2 of them, both from China. I bought them off fleabay for dirt cheap. One was actually cut wrong, and the flange distance was off, meaning I couldn't use it at infinity. The other was correct, and I can use LTM at infinity. Now if I had a decent LTM lens, I'd be thrilled... like a Summilux or something.

If you go to fleabay, just make sure they say the mount will work at infinity.
kelly_flanigan1
LTM has a shorter film/sensor to lens flange distance than Nikon F.

LTM has a 28.8mm distance

Nikon F has a a 46.5mm distance

This means for infinity focus; one can place a Nikon F lens on a LTM body; but the opposite way.

A LTM lens on a Nikon F body cannot focus to infinity on a Nikon F slr series.

You can buy a Novoflex adapter to get infinity focus of a Nikon F lens on a LTM or Leica M mount body
