Hey everyone,
I had a few questions about underwater housing, specifically for the 5dm2. Anyone have any experience with one or can reccomend one around $2k? Also, what size lens can you generally fit inside one? I'd prob want to put my 16-35 in, but it's a beast of a lens, and all the pictures i see, the lens housing looks pretty stubby. Thanks all!

Benjamin,
Don't expect you are going to find many offerings in an underwater housing and lens port for the 16-35 for under $2k!
But here's a good place to start . . .http://www.ikelite.com/web_pages/slrone.html
Also there has been some previous threads on the same subject.
Best wishes,

You'll need the main housing unit and a lens port for your lens (plus other things, such as lights with housings and mounts, spare parts, etc.) which quickly adds up to serious dollars, around 4 thousand worth of green...
See http://wetpixel.com/i.php/full/canon-5d-mark-ii-housing-shootout/ for good info on several alternatives.

If you want to fully submerge your DSLR deeper that a few feet, you'll need to use a rigid housing or, due to those pesky laws of physics, water pressure will render the camera controls inoperable if housed in a plastic bag, even if the bag itself survives...

For less then 2K you'll need to go used, which I recommend only if you really (really...) know what are you doing and are dealing with a very honest seller.

Sorry about the double post!
Not intentional!
My computer froze up, and somewhere in the process of trying to "ending the session & rebooting" I apparently got the double post!
Would appreciate it if the Moderator's would delete one, if necessary!

Your only choice in that price range is the Ikelite already mentioned. Add the 8inch dome port, the extended port body, and a diopter, and you'll be just slightly above 2K. The Ikelite is a plastic housing, unlike the others in the wetpixel comparison. I've been told that this makes it a bit bulkier and the controls a bit less precise, but other than that it is a very reliable housing (ie no flooding).

Regarding the 16-35, I've learned in the while that the problem is not the 82mm front element. It will fit just as fine with the dome port. The problem is the lens performance at the focusing distance required by the port. This results in unsharp corners. The 17-40 is supposedly much less problematic.

Just an additional precision: officially Ikelite states that the 16-35 II is not supported. If you assemble the dome and extension together and then try to get the lens inside, it will not fit. However if you first mount the lens, then the extension, and then the dome, it fits OK. However, it sits too close to the dome for good results.
