michaelmiller
Except for our cats in the garden, I have never photographed any wildlife. I do have the 55-200 VR though and I must say it's a very nice lens for the money. It has a slow maximum aperture and the autofocus is also not very fast. However, I sold my 70-300 VR for this lens, because it's so amazingly small, light and easy to use. The autofocus on the 70-300 VR is faster, the image is slightly sharper and it has better conrast. But you can always pimp an image (to some degree) in your photo editing software. I think the extra 100mm at the end can make a difference when photographing wildlife, but the performance of this lens is weakest there. Not bad, just less sharp. The 70-300 VR is also bigger and heavier then the 550-200 VR and it also has a slowish maximum aperture. Both lenses are great value and what lens you should buy, depends on your personal needs.
