Finally. A tripod that makes me laugh.

This is great! I've been playing with something like that in my head a long time. I hate tripods -- they take all the fun out of photography. However, this little thing folds small enough and sets up easily enough to be usable. Still, it only handles 3 lbs! So it's a step in the right direction but not sturdy enough for my needs -- must handle at least 5lbs.

Aluminum tent poles are pretty strong even unstressed. They flex a lot, but they don't fall apart or crash with significantly more than 3 pounds on them. I suspect the actual maximum weight rating to be limited more by the small ball head than the spindly legs. I think it also needs a short center column for adjusting the height in smaller increments than whole sections. But for an 11 oz tripod...

I use my D90 on this occasionally also. It is better than having nothing but don't think about using a heavy lens and if there is any wind it is relatively useless. If no wind, just use 2s timer and you will have a steady shot. It really does open in less than a second, closing it takes about 30 seconds.

Rob on the second page above is spot on. I've an ancient sprung-legged toy tripod (must be 40-50 years old) that is great for poking out eyes as it opens, and a superb wrestle to put all three legs down at the same time - but it really does make a good support for a portable light tent for flower photos. I just clip some white translucent material over it and enjoy the wonderful diffused light. But it's a lot more fun watching that video....

Sometimes when I travel, I carry my G-10 in my pocket and walk around whatever city I am in at night. I don't carry a tripod because I am going to walk around for three or four hours and eat dinner and have beer and who wants to carry a tripod through all that? This though .... this I could carry.

It is what it is and for the right situation (shooting with a compact camera and traveling light), it seems like it could work.
