Konica C35V

Recommended Posts

For those who've never used a Konica RF, here's a neat feature that you will like: The C35, C35 Automatic, and C35V as well as the Konica Auto S2 (also S1.6 and S3) allow you to lock in the exposure reading by partially depressing the shutter release. Once done, recompose to include your subject and press the shutter release the rest of the way. One of the simplest ways to compensate for backlighting and other lighting difficulties IMHO.
I suspect the later C35 versions (the ones with flash may have this feature as well). Likely the Auto S probably does too.

Thanks for your post, Mike.
I just bought a C35 EF for cheap, but it reads light ok it seems.
Put a dollar store 1.4 battery in it and the meter
responds to EV variations.
I hope that it works as well as yours!

Mike, you should post some photos from your C35 EF when you get a chance. The C35 EF was in some ways a transitional camera in that it had a separate mercury cell for the meter and AA cells for the built-in flash. Later cameras, of course, used AA or AAA cells to run the whole works. The 1.4 V cell should do fine. That's what I use in mine.
Jeff, sometimes it's a tough call for me: do I carry a C35V (or similar size camera) or one of the XA series? While the XA, XA-2, etc. are pocketable, the C35 series needs a larger pocket. But at least the C35/C35V can function (in limited fashion) with a discharged battery. Without a battery, the XA is as dead as a can of Spam. My solution: carry both if possible.
