gavin_seiler
Hi Everyone,
Been watching the group for a few weeks now and been pretty impressed by the quality of the work submitted. Thought I should jump off of the fence and submit a few bits of my own. Hope you like.
Here's a picture of a little cricket we caught in the house last week, end to end he was about 1.5cm (5/8")

Cricket - Nikon D50 18-55mm 1/60s F4 with speedlight

dave_greenidge1
Roberta - very nice capture, it has almost a glass like appearance.

An evening street shot during a trip to Bangalore a couple of weeks ago. I found people on the street a bit shy when you pointed a D700 and a moderate size lens at them - I think P&S would have been more fun.

graneenie
Since I'm heading off to the dentist today I thought I'd post a shot from my last visit there. What else is there to do when you are waiting in the chair than take pictures! It takes your mind off of the horror to come too!!!

thadley
Fabulous shots everyone - a joy to observe on this very warm summer day in Montreal.
My shot is one taken of a train track just behind our local library where I surprisingly found a couple of shrubs in full fall regalia - perhaps a sign of a short summer. It was hand held 1/80 at F14.

rodeo_joe1
Great stuff as usual. Macro has been my thing this week, still trying to get to grips with focus stacking, so here's a straight shot of a budding Hedge Woundwort flower - about 4mm across in real life. Until I had the pictures on my computer I didn't realise how alien these things looked.
Tech data: Nikon D700 + 60mm f/4 Rodagon lens on bellows @ f/11 and lit by handheld flash. This is a tight crop from an approximately 3:1 magnification frame.

photojen
Issac, no my entry is not a studio shot. It was shot outside, while my friend held a black cloth behind the flower.
jay_poel
Great shots as usual. I Brett's HDR gravestone and Tony's railway tracks really caught my eye.
He is one from the Canada Day celebration last week in my town. Caught it at twilight and was pleasantly surprised by the blue sky.

Kent Shafer
Our family is vacationing on Nantucket this week (where it's warm but cooler than the mainland). On Monday, we passed a guy fishing on the beach and stopped to take a picture since he seemed to have hooked a big one. Suddenly, he started running toward us, away from the water. We realized why a second later, when he dragged his bluefish up on the beach, and a tremendous huge seal came charging out of the surf after it! The seal grabbed the fish, went back into the water, and just floated around for awhile holding it in his mouth - taunting the fisherman perhaps? Eventually the seal ate the fish.

When I saw the seal come out of the water, I just started firing away with the D300 and 70-200 that were in my hand, set however it happened to be set. This is the best image. If you look closely, you can see the line still attached to the fish.

paul_duncan2
The crowd walking to the stadium in Cape Town last night just kept coming, thousands and thousands of people and only a handful were the lucky ones with a ticket for the stadium. Cape Town was one big party,

ShunCheung
Jennifer Meighan: nice lily shot, but it too looks like a studio capture to be due to the completely dark background and lighting. Instead of a dark cloth, I have some green backgrounds that I sometimes use for flower close ups. I think a green background makes it look more natural.

ShunCheung
John Mita: nice image of the resort. Was it captured with the 18-200mm at 18mm? Take a look at the horizon near the top of the frame. The barrel distortion is very serious.
photojen
Shun, thanks for the studio compliment. I like the contrasting colors with the black cloth and orange, but I will keep the green in mind. Almost 99% of the time I shoot flowers, I don't use any background, so I was going for a different look and feel with this flower shot, plus my gutter was in the background.
