Tokyo Used Camera Show

Recommended Posts

Just letting anyone in or around Tokyo know that, up on the 8th floor of the Tokyu Department Store's Touyoko Wing connected to Shibuya Station, they are doing the annual Used Camera Show!

It's pretty small...only like 10 vendors or so. But I have never seen so many Leicas, Hasselblads, Rolleiflexes, Pentax, and other film cameras and lenses all in one place. And you can touch them, view them, and buy them at reasonable prices. Finally broke down and picked up a Leica 35mm Summilux ver.2 yesterday that came with a hood and was in almost perfect condition. ...oh...so people with bad impulse control should stay away...it's a miracle I didn't walk away with that lens AND an M6...

Just thought I'd spread the news since it's really not that all advertised and even I just happened to see the ad in the latest issue of Asahi Camera by pure luck. :D ...now...time to go and test out that lens!

I was going to go today :)
But I decided I really need to save money haha
There are multiple shows like that all year round. There's one in Autumn time too. This one is run by the ICS which is some group of camera stores. If you go to one of them then they will have posters up announcing the event.
Its a nice way to spend some time and look at some nice cameras :)

I'm in the states so i wont be going to this show, however i wanted to ask anyone that does go, if they happen to notice anyone selling a Minolta X600 note how much its selling for .. Its something i have always wanted to buy but i never ever seen one for sale anywhere. But since it was a 'made for Japanese market only' model i figured that would be a place someone might sell it.
If you see one let me know please!

WOW that sounds great. I wish i knew somone coming from japan to NY so i can ask them to buy it for me. Unfortunatly my one jappaniese friend she only goes to japan arround christmass time to see family, I once asked her to look for that camera for me but she told me its very rare to find a plac that sells old cameras that they mostly sell new things.
Darn i sure wish i could buy that one you mentioned, It sounds good.
However i just tried to go to yahoo auctions. I have not been there in years and canot seem to find the page. THe link i have the page its no longer there it says. I get nothing when i look for the services too .. And a yahoo search for the auctions page gives me this message from yahoo.
"Yahoo! Auctions will officially stopped posting auction listings on June 3, 2007, with all auctions terminating later that month"
I see search listings for links to yahoo auctions Singapore and yahoo auctions Japan and i seen other countries, but when i click on them I get redirected back to the yahoo main page. Maybe its no longer available in the US for some reason. Oh well
Wanna buy it for me ? lol j/k

Well, I doubt I will go back but if I do I will check.

However, if ANY of you ever make it to Japan and Tokyo in particular, there are TONS of used camera stores everywhere. Map Camera is a huge one but there are so many others all filled with quiet guys staring intensely at hundreds and thousands of dollars worth of classic camera and lenses :) It's definitely worth a trip if you're into this even if there isn't a show!

Yeah, the whole of Tokyo is a used camera show ;)
The auction was for Yahoo Japan and I am not sure they are linked with the rest of the world...
I might be going on Monday or Tuesday. If I go I'll let you know if I see one.

well then i wonder why my friend Kaoru told me that. Her home is just outside of Tokyo, she is here on a student visa. And i asked her to look last time she when home and she said she has never see a used classic camera store there, that everything is new and everything would be more expensive, that its better to buy in America..

Hmmm now me thinks that was just a polite way of saying, "Oh i don't feel like doing any errands for you, i cant be bothered" .. I need better friends ....lol

Hahaha. No. Your friend Kaoru is right. If you don't know where to look, all you see are the shiny new super advanced digital cameras of all varieties. Go to Yodobashi Camera in Akihabara and it's 6 stories of amazing electronics with barely a manual camera in sight!! BUT, if you go to the smaller areas...outside of the glitz and the glamor...that's where you find these specialty stores JAM PACKED with everything Leica, Cosina, Hasselblad, Rollei, Pentax. But if your friend has absolutely no interest in this? She won't have a clue. Especially since many of these stores are either not on the ground floor or it is multi story and the main floors are for new and shiny while we all head down to the basement for the old and cool. :)

So yeah, Kaoru-chan just didn't know. They are here. In numbers. Most are tiny. But you just have to know where to go!

Its funny that i was talking about this with you guys .. i haven't talked to my friend Kaoru in a few months and then i hear from her this week.. It turns out that she is going back to japan to have a little minor surgery next month, and she will stay there with her family for the rest of the summer.. I was telling her about this discussion we had and she was surprised that there would be one let alone so many places for old cameras in the Tokyo area. And she agreed that she was not into such stuff and wouldn't have known. She only buys Sony digital she told me..lol.. Anyway, She told me if there is a place i find out about, that isn't too hard to get to and i tell her where to go and what to buy she would get it for me, she doesn't want to be hunting all over the place i take it . I don't blame her.
SO i guess the only way i would find out such a thing is to ask here .. So if anyone knows a camera store that has a Minolta x600 let me know, I would really appreciate it ..

PS. Chuk Tang, see if you can email me a link to that yahoo auction page .. maybe i can ask her to ask her brother back home to get it for me
