delay in shutter release

HI Guys
I use Canon 50D. For last some of the days, facing strange problem.
Whenever hitting the shutter it's taking a while to release a shutter. I don't know it matters or not, but tried all the lenses I have, but it is the same. I never shoot in bust mode (dontinuous shoot mode) but when I started shooting so (for the dirt track race) I think after that I am facing this problem. In both , single shoot mode and continuous shoot mode. The Camera is still in the warranty period so I can get it fixed from Canon, but just wanted to know what is this problem? and when it can occur with Camera. would like to know your experiences if you have.
thanks in advance
happy shooting prasad

Do a full reset of all setting, remove all batteries and let it sit for a few hours and retry. Finally, reflash the firmware (even if its the same version already installed) and see if that resolves the issue. Make sure its not an issue with AF not locking on. If useing AF, the shutter will not fire untill AF locks on.

It might just be a setting, or you might have the same problem I just faced with my 40D. When half-pressing the shutter button it would acquire focus and meter correctly, but then when pressing the button all the way down nothing would happen and then after a second, it would fire.

I sent mine in to Canon and they agreed there was an issue with it and they will repair it (not for free, as it is no longer under warranty). I have read that this happened a lot with the 40d - it seems to be dirt accumulating under the button.

If Scott is not correct (he probably is) you may as JDM says have the AF in AI Focus which can sometimes cause a short delay. This is especially noticible with a slower focusing lens or one where the AF range on the lens is set very wide (for example the 100 f2.8 LIS macro with the whole AF range available is quite slow to focus - with this lens it is best to decide if you are shooting Macro or not and set the AF limiter accordingly)

Thanks guys,
thanks for quick replies, I checked, so .... it's not 2 seconds time delay on, it's not a mirror lock up, like Juergen said, after locking the focus it's taking time to release the shutter, not a second but just a fraction of second which matters a lot for me as my most favourite is birding. @JDM - I am facing it even in nice crisp light :( So I am going to give a try what Jason Hall said. Will update once tried that.
thanks again everybody for quick help,
happy shooting

Are you keeping the shutter depressed halfway after focus locks? Or are you focusing, lifting your finger, then depressing the button all the way? I know it seems pretty obvious, but just trying to rule everything out. Just wanted to be sure you are keeping the shutter depressed after focusing.

thanks Nathan
it helps a lot. I tried it with MF and what a magic, it's shooting as perfect as it use to but not with AF. So now atleast I can say something is going wrong when I shoot in AF. And I am not lifting the fingel after locking the focus, I am keeping the shutter depressed after focusing. Let's see, tomo going for outdoor shoot, will try some other things also otherwise update the firmware and see. Hope for the best. thanks a lot
