*New Toy* - Argus 300

Argus 300 Slide Projector
1955 - ?

I know this may not be a *classic camera* but it is an accessory and I do see accessories from time to time here, hope you enjoy the post just the same.

I picked this up last weekend at a second hand store for $5, I have been needing one, as I shot my one and only slides back in 1982 but never viewed them with a projector, only scanning them about 25 years later when I purchased my HP 3970 scanner.

I have no idea why I selected slide film back then, may have been a mistake? But I now plan on doing more. I am trolling for my first AF SLR film camera and may make slides my first test roll.

This worked no issues, even has that 1950's - 1960's musk when fired up! The lens was very stiff, a little muscle and it works like new. I am missing the cartridges but I do see them often and will pick up some up next go around.

The lens is a Anastigmat f/3.3 and included a working 300w bulb.

While doing research on the projector, I came across two links of intrest.

I might have this one.. if not one quite like it! I almost threw it out as I have a "better" one from my wife! I also spent about 5 US$ at a flea market and it's bulb was/is still OK. And Like yours it has that 1950/60s slide show vibe that comes with the smell! Slides are really the way to go...I believed this up until the turn of the century as my kids got older ..nobody wants to look at slides..the PC rules and it the convenience store ..the 7/11 for Today! I love slides. I love the projected picture and the realism it captures! Hard sell ....

That's great! I was so excited when I finally got my slide projector. And something is definitely going on, because it took me forever to find one I could actually afford! I kept looking on eBay and all the decent ones were selling for over $100 (even without a lens!) I finally managed to find a vintage "Skot" projector in pretty good shape...it even came with the original case and instructions :)

I actually posted a topic when I got it:

Nice projector! I have the same one and have used it over the years to project my Kodachrome collection on the wall (I ain't got a screen). Made and used in the days before carousel trays and push-button advance.

Rick - Thanks, I used my Shepherd meter and a new used KA lens in my *home* studio...the garage :) and my Pentax K110D for those shots, I also like how well they turned out.

Chuck - I'm looking forward in doing more slides !

Chris - Like you, I was happy...I really didn't plan on a projector that day, it was there, I was there, the price was good, I couldn't resist!

Thomas - I also used the wall, maybe if I find a shade, I'll grab it. If I were on the hunt purposely, I would have done the newer carousal and remote...another purchase another day.

Kevin - You must have had a bad experience as a child, no stories. :)

Thanks!
~Jack
