pedro_vargas
Hello,

I've been getting into shooting on location portraits and was wondering if people knew some famous environmental portrait photographers in the likes of Arnold Newman or Albert Watson.

p
pbalko
Try Alfred Eisenstadt. He created some inspired environmental portraiture with a 35mm before 35mm was cool.

luis_g
Here's a few off the top of my head:

Avedon did go outside the studio

Jane Bown

Robert Bergman

Gerard Malanga

Bill Owens

Mary Ellen Mark

Paul Fusco

Platon

That should keep you busy.

twmeyer
Duane Michals worked almost entirely outside the studio. Many of Irving Penn's greatest portraits were also done "on location", but he found locations and brought his subjects there, or like Avedon, created a studio on location, using only daylight. Clay Enos also works this way, to great effect. I think Jock Sturges certainly is one of the best environmental portraitists... then there's Dan Winters' location stuff and Peter Yang... geeze it goes on and on.. t

johnw436
I was going to post a link to Masters of Fine Art Photography but it seems the site is gone.

I did find this, however. A treasure trove!
