oistrakh
Hi,

I recently purchased a Voigtlander Cosina 40mm f/1.4 Nokton lens, and I was surprised to find that the focusing ring is completely smooth, except for one small part that sticks out. I am finding it very difficult to focus properly while looking through the viewfinder since only one finger can get any leverage to turn the ring. Does anyone else have this problem? Am I just using this wrong? Every other lens I have (for non-M rangefinders and other cameras) has a normal ribbed focusing ring so that you can easily grab it and focus, so I'm not sure if this is just something specific to this lens or if I am using it wrong somehow.

Thanks,
Chris
jean_yves_mead
I found that it makes for very quick and easy focussing with the weak hand's index finger while still supporting the camera. Many of the VC lenses have a focussing tab or post rather than a knurled ring for focussing. The focussing tab is also common on Leica M lenses. oistrakh
I see, so the point is to have the left hand holding the base of the camera, and only focus with one single finger rotating the tab? I will have to try that, I can see how it might be quicker with such a small camera and lens.
jean_yves_mead
That's how I used it. You should find that the pad of your finger slips nicely into the cut-out on the focussing tab. It's a fine little lens. I hope you have fun with it.
