h_s1
I gather that T-50 is just a P&S SLR camera. Ignoring its ability to accept different lenses, it is just a very limited P&S camera.

Having said that, does somebody have experience with it? How reliable is the exposure meter? Can the camera be used without any worries for usual holiday or vacation photos? Finally, as another usual measure, has somebody used it to shoots slides with good results?

alan_swartz
Yes, programmed autoexposure only, a "foolproof" simple camera for the casual shooter before autofocus. I think it exposes just as accurately as any of its siblings--T70, AE-1 Program, etc. Like the others, it uses centerweighted averaging metering. Slides should be no more problem than with any similar camera.

I loaned one to a non-photographic friend who has used it for years to make perfectly adequate snapshots. You'd never know his prints from those made in any other FD camera.

I'd say no worries, assuming your particular T50 is in proper condition.
tsuacctnt
I haven't shot any slide film through mine but it works great with print film as long as I remember to set the ISO correctly.
h_s1
I got this one as an incidental item at virtually no extra expense. Your experience reassures me. I was earlier thinking of putting it up for sale, but now I have decided to take it out for a spin next weekend. If the exposures are spot on, then it is a nice camera to take on a typical point-and-shoot outing. It is quite noisy though.

Thanks.

SCL
I had one thrown in with another purchase about 2 years ago. I was going to toss it, but decided to shoot a roll. Much to my surprise all of the photos came out well exposed. You're right, it was noisy. When I cleaned it up and put it up for auction, I again was surprised, the bidding was competitive and I got a good price for it.
h_s1
Yes, the ISO setting. Even though it is the lone manual setting, I plan to experiment with it as an exposure compensation adjustment. It is just as easy to set as the exposure comp. in A-1 (press a button to unlock and then turn the setting ring).
manuel barrera houston,
In fact I use the T50 and T70 as point and shoot street cameras, the fd lens are small, light, and sharp. The lens also allow you to use automatic or manual settings on the aperture.
h_s1
Just wanted to close the thread with feedback. Got a chance to complete a roll, develop and scan it. The exposure was spot on! T-50 is quite reliable for good exposures after all.

Manuel, taking the lens off "A" setting forces the shutter speed to 1/60 sec in the T50, btw.

Thanks to everyone who contributed to this discussion.
