stephen_lilley
I have recently sold my soul to aquire this lens.I thought long and hard and read , I think every question on the forum relating to this focal length. I shoot birds, mainly small birds, in English conditions, (often poor light), I traded in my 500mm P lens and took the bull by the horns. I can say , without reservation, IMO this lens does everything it says on"the label" I do not know where the doubts regarding VR "normal /tripod mode originate, This lens is all I could have hoped for ,and more. VR WORKS . Regards Stephen

Matthew Brennan
Nice to hear of a positive affirmation regarding a lens from time to time. I look forward to the distant day when I too can graduate ($$$) from the 500mm f/4 P to the auto focus VR model...........
steve_in_l.a.
Stephen, great news. I'm planning on upgrading my 500/4 P shortly myself. Can you confirm whether the 500 VR is sharp wide open? What body are you using it on?

joseph_smith3
Stephen, now that you have this lens, and you are using a D 300, experiment to figure out your maximum usable ISO/ fastest and slowest shutter speed combinations. I think you will be amazed to learn how your new lens when coupled with the ISO ranges of the D 300 has opened up new photo vistas for you.

Joe Smith
