missy_kay
Hey everyone!
Today I got excited because I handheld a shutter at 2 seconds and it was pretty darn clear. It made me wonder about how long the awesome people on pnet could handhold a picture and it be clear. So does anyone wanna take a challenge with me below and post photos handheld with long shutter speeds and they maybe we can all vote at the end? Does this sound fun? Yay! :)
(PS I'm not sure why my text got so big just then, I hit a weird key on my laptop and can't make it go back lol)

(Mod note: Fixed. KenPapai
Post yours to start this off. I remember recently I did a 1/4 second hand held that was good. Maybe start a NO WORDS challenge?
MichaelChang
2 seconds handheld is pretty darn impressive and I'd sure like to see the picture. The closest I've come to an acceptable picture is about 1/8S without bracing against a stationary object.
john schroeder
When I was younger I could handhold my rangefinder with a 35mm lens at 1/15 of a second. Today I don't like to handhold anything below 1/60 of a second. I blame my subjects for getting less steady as I get older.
derek_kennedy
Was that 2 seconds with a stabilized lens? :P

Actually its still impressive even if it was a stabilized lens, I have trouble with 1/2 second lol - the ol hands are not as steady as they used to be.
umesh_bhayaraju
hope you were not shooting in dark and the flash fired at the end of 2 sec exposure or shooting some fireworks. ? other than that you are going to get any clear pictures with 2 sec handheld
bobatkins
It's a matter of probability. Take enough shots and some will be sharper than others. The occasional one will be pretty sharp, even at a fairly low shutter speed. Getting one sharp shot isn't at all surprising. Getting a high proportion of sharp shots at 2s without IS would be.
mart_e
Does handheld also cover leaning camera and body against a doorframe ?

Martin
bob_sunley
Well pressing a camera against a 4 foot diameter stone column is still "hand held". Works pretty good for multi-second shots in dark churches with Kodachrome 25 asa film. :)

josh_edelman
This is with a 1/50s with a D300s and 500 f/4. It's semi-handheld (on a monopod) but I figure it counts because the lens is so much heavier than all the rest (please?)!

samn
Well I guess it can be done. I sorted by 2 sec. shutter speed and came up with this. As I remember I was kneeling, but definitely no tripod, hand held. Minolta A200, in body stab. This is the only one though that EXIF came up with that was not taken on a tripod.

Dieter Schaefer
Tried this the other day - after I saw an instructional video by Zack Arias were he claimed that he can get sharp shots at 1s shutter speed hand held http://photocamputah.com/video_zackarias.html
Tried it - this is a 100% crop from a series of 5 shots taken at 1/2 second

martin_z.
What a fun exercise! As soon as I finished reading this thread, I had to try it myself. I'll try to get the shots out of the camera, and into the forum tomorrow. I guarantee they're nowhere near what Sam has accomplished!

As for the "rules" for this, I would not include monopod shots. Any kind of bracing would be allowed (kneeling, leaning, etc.), as long as the camera is in the hands.

Thanks for a fun thread.
