A little late this week. A little busy. Oh, well.

Here's a shot this morning, just after sunrise, Boston Harbor from the South Boston waterfront. My best to all!

Re the low Jpeg quality. Sorry about blaming Photo.net. It appears that the problem is due either to my IE settings or the fact that I'm surfing via the 3G phone network. Anyhow, if I refresh the page using CTRL+F5 the pictures magically come back in their original quality.

Red-faced apologies again!

Comments on Nikon Wednesday 2010 #12:

@Bill J Boyd, the raccoon is great. Cute. Too bad they are pests.
@Gej, the stairway has a nice pleasant feeling to it.
@Matthew Brennan, nice clouds!
@Paula Wang, the orange flower macro nice... Light, airy flower, sharp bug.
@Anish, great evening pic of the city.
@Jens, I've been in that spot. Great museum.
@Apurva, your forks are unusual and wonderful. Got my attention.
@Rick Moran, amazing... With the bird landing and moving, how is the water still smooth. Great image.
@Dave Wilson, you must have an amazing garden.
@Andrew Meszaros, I really like the boots.
@Mark Mandell, nice blue spring night.
@Roberta, another great water drop photo.
@Lawrence Ho, the pinochio figure is very nice. I guess you like the new lens?
@Mark Jordan, the buttons... Very colorful.
@Rodeo Joe, just a nice feel to this image.
@Jennifer Meighan, great rainfow finch.
@Heyley Karl, nice indoor track image; I like the motion.
@Colin Mangan, what a nice waterfall.

And... I got so busy I never got back to comment last week. For Wednesday 1020 #11:

@Bill J Boyd, your two tulips. Glad to hear winter is over. Snow here this morning was discouraging. But, your tulips are crisp and great color.
@Gej Jones, the trees lit from below make the Ferris Wheel just surreal
@Grant Tanner, I like the Melbourne waterfront. I can't tell if it's straight or tone-maped... To me that means you've done it well.
@Caillum Smith, I can see you are going to enjoy your D90.
@Tiffany Brook, your family portraits are always just great.
@Rick Moran, the bird, the action, the colors are all terrific.
@Dieter Schaefer, the bird, the pose, the colors are all terrific, and so different from Rick Moran's. I'm continually amazed and inspired by the variety here.
@Greg Kowalczewski, that's a great bird portrait. Intense!
@Vineet Rajasekhar, the fence posts are ethereal. The one on the left is a rocket, about to launch. Great color and tone.
@Benjamin Majcen, very cool photo looking down at the little boy. Love the big eyes.
@Laurence Ho, your little green frog on a finger
@Jon Eckman, your rainy night show becomes a beautiful abstract.

I really love these threads! To mention just a few of the wonderful pictures:

Shun's cool light and shadow composition — suggestive of the Nike swoosh? (Though, it may be hard to make a bad picture of Maria.)

Rene's duck

Dieter Schaefer's bird. A graceful pose yet a bit fierce looking too. Entirely plausible that his (the bird's) ancestors were dinosaurs.

Jens — I love the colors.

John Mita — great sharp/blurry 3D effect done with a sometimes maligned lens

Josh's beautiful digital black-and-white — looks like good old Tri-X, D-76, and a condensor enlarger

Rick Moran — there are no words!

Tim Holte's very Irish portrait

Andrew's boots. I like it that they're obviously well worn yet cleaned, shined, and fitted with new laces.

Steve J Murray/Lydia - gorgeous eyes

Brian Guy. Very cool! (I'm a sucker for Jeeps. We have three, two of which run.)

Jeff Lipsman — "decisive moment" for sure!

Greg Kowalczewski. I really enjoy looking at this great picture even though I'm an American and have no clue as to its significance or what "Death Rattle" means or anything else about cricket. (It is cricket — right?)

First up - Thank you to Matthew, Keerthi, Jeff Farkash & Narayan Kovvali for noticing & commenting on my flower. I hope I haven't missed anyone.
Secondly - My favorites this week are
Epps's pup photo, Gej's staircase, Matthew's amazing cloud formations, Greg's Flamingos, Paula's California Poppy being visited by a bug, Rene's Pintail male in flight, Keerthi's butterfly, Dieter's Curlew, Vineet's landscape, Bogdan's street scene, Rick's stellar Yellow Legs, Kent's sea turtle - amazing post processing, Tim Holt's amazing character, Dallas's landscape, Roberta's water drops, Gabriel's snow tracks in the night, Alejandro's landscape/seascape sunset, Juho's for me very nostalgic from my childhood photo (I always used one of those while visiting my grandparents in northern Sweden. My father is right now on the way up there to celebrate Easter up there), Janne's dogs, William's girls reading, Narayan's flower with such a wonderful & calm background, Jennifer's macro Finch shot, Greg's cricket shot, and finally Richard's marina.
Thank you all - Lil :-)

I like the shadow too, but it is not all that difficult to create a bad picture of Maria Sharapova. I have quite a few of those to prove it, but I don't share them on the web. Of course the subject is fine and so is the camera; the culprit is what is behind the camera, as usual.

My favorite from this week is Rick Moran's yellowlegs. Great timing with wings up and a perfect reflection. Doug Santo's Anna's Humming Bird is very nice also. As a bird photographer myself, I know those are not easy to capture. The spiral pattern in Gej Jones' staircase image is nicely presented.

Thanks to Arthur Richardson, Jeff Farkash, Gej Jones and Lil Judd for the comments and kind words!!

The ones I like a little more are: Lil's Artistic macro, Gej Jones's Stair, Greg Jones's Flamingos, Jana Hughes's Car, Josh Loeser's Guitarist hands, Rick Moran's Ballet Bird, Roberta Davidson's Water drops, Gabriel Hasser's Steps, Janne Kaakinen's Dogs point of view, Aguinaldo de Paula's Cathedral (enjoy your trip!) Alpo Syvänen's Trees (Don't ever leave the forest! every week a fantastic picture from there) Greg Kowalczewski's Death Rattle. I also have no idea what it means, being South American. but a great sport shot!

Tiffany Brook...Very funny!! but you still owns us a Landscape ;-)! About what you asked Pascal Burel on his beautiful last week pic (the 3 dogs) I'm almost sure the picture is a card of Padre Pio AKA Saint Pio of Pietrelcina a controvertial Capuchin Priest who died in 1968. Famous for his Stigmata [wounds similar to the Christ ones] and other miracles as being in two different places at the same time ( That would be great!!)

by by
Alejandro

OK, here is my first Wednesday submission. This is a dogwood tree in my front yard, just leafing out. I shot it with D90 + 105 f2.8 AF micro at ISO=200, f8, t=1/5. I used manual focus on an old Bogen tripod and auto exposure.

00W7Mx-233011584.jpg.12785a6c6995a05e03b992752dfb9ac5.jpg

Great shots from everyone again, loved them all, but I especially liked the shots by Lil Judd (lovely, as always), Jana Hughes (love the mood), Apurva Madia (simple and effective), Rick Moran (beautiful shot), Kent Shafer (impressive use of PP), Roberta Davidson (love the background), Temi Kujore (weird shot, but it stops me every time I scroll through this thread), Filip Lucin (cute series), Alpo Syvänen (excellent shot) & Hayley Karl (great use of motion blur).

And thanks to Lil, Linda & Alejandro for the comments! See you all tomorrow!
