In search of Mentor

<p>I've relocated to the SF Bay Area after hopping around for the six years post school doing news internships, working odd jobs, and shooting weddings. Now I'm starting my own photo business with the hopes of freelancing for publications too and keeping my personal projects going. And...well..I need help. I am looking for someone who has been in the field and has experience in the realms of journalism, weddings, portraiture and business.<br>

I'm super excited to find someone who has experience in these realms, has been in the industry for awhile and is eager to be my mentor. Any advice on how to find this person is GREATLY appreciated and will be awarded with a HUGE cyber hug.Thanks in advanced.</p>

<p>Do I get a huge cyberhug, or a little one, or just an "eh".....? Seriously, your best bet is to do some research on some shooters in your area, study their sites, their work and then make some personal contacts rather than a random request for help via an international forum. Also investigate networking with local pros while you're engaged in your mentor search. Good luck.</p>

<p>I think both of these are good ideas. The more people you ask, the more chances you have to find the right one. I just walked into one and offered to work for free, and ended up with a mentor. It ended up in a mutually beneficial relationship, and we're still friends after 6 years. But, after relocating, the internet helped me find a great network of local professionals from whom I've learned a LOT. Keep your options open and see what turns up! Good luck!</p>
