This winter has been a real "old time" winter also here in Central Finland. During the last five winters some of the winters have been very mild tempered and without lots of snow, well, this winter has brought more than enough of snow and frost. I think that this has been the same for most of the northern hemisphere.

00VxwN-227963684.jpg.cc15a28362a5e7897a62f21d27b9b000.jpg

Rick, I greatly admire your pelican shot...that dark background really makes it "pop" as they say.
This one is dawn at Huddle Bay, Lake George, New York
Must confess it was shot last fall but I like it and haven't shown it anywhere yet.

00VxxW-227975784.jpg.c785647a21b75b32fff90df77a63d68e.jpg

Happy wednesday!
Especially Richard Karash and BM Mills, many congratulations!

For me, this week I haven't touched my Nikon all week.... I did spend quite some time with the newest toy, a Fuji F70EXR, but obviously that will not count here. Rain spoilt the remaining days...
So one from a week back. The very first tourists of the year visiting the Greek theatre in Siracusa (Sicily), getting caught by their tourguide.

Many more to look at...wonderful!

Greg...Nice shot. Great handling of the light and whites. Looks very successful to me.

Jens...Nice capture. The static and motion are nice against each other. The muscles in the sharp fighters arm tell the story and continue the motion. Nice job.

Dieter...Yes...my fave this week...for sure. Aptly named...he really looks like a griffin. Amazing clarity and capture of character.

Sanford...1000 words....what a sad sad story. Great shot.

Durukan...Hardly subpar! Beautiful image. Sad and sweet. Lovely soft light. Great shot. I am sure that it was hard to hold the camera and not your son. Ah, the things we do to get the shot.

Rick...Fantastic colors and capture!

Aguinaldo...Very nice...looks more like yoga to me

Greg...Ooh la la! Gorgeous!

Lawrence...Really nice job. Looks so simple, but I know if I attempted it, the results would be quite different. I REALLY should read that book.

Alejandro...Hand held? Wowza! Nice job.

Gary...Great face! Really wonderful against that blue.

Christopher...Thanks for your comments. You have an amazing capture of an amazing place. We never got that view when we went to Glacier. So, thank you for taking the time to send out a little piece of your paradise...really beautiful.

Bal...Very nice. I love your lighting...I mean nature's lighting and your handling of it.

Richard...Lovely! Simple, beautiful. Perfect spring shot.

Beautiful pics again. Those really standing out for me are:

Richard Lanthier: lovely scene, intriguing, cute

Grant Tanner: nice vintage, rusty, dirty feeling conveyed

Tom Serio: hahaha, that bird! very nice capture

Roberta Davidson: so much great water pictures for weeks now - this one i really liked, great effort, great results

Gary Leighton: happy & beautiful

Alpo Syvänen: great lines and light!

Joe Walsh: simply stunning (any post-work?)

In contrast to last week's billboard submission (hope it at least triggered some thoughts... Peter Rafle, thanks for your words), an Australian sunset.

Was hoping to post a pic from this week, but not interesting enough to share. Took my camera into a club last saturday, which was interesting and fun :) Not the best pics yet, i really need to start use and master flash...

Anyway, here goes. Walpole area, SW Australia this winter. Travelling is great. Loved the clouds - and freedom!

D90, 18-200 VR @ 55mm, f9, 1/320, iso 200, -3 EV to get silhouettes and more colors of the sky

Here are my personal favs from this thread :

Narayan Kovvali - that is indeed a beautiful shot

Vineet Rajasekhar - Great portrait of a beautiful lady

Rick Moran - great shot!

Aguinaldo de Paula - wow, the shutter speed of 1/8000s makes it so sharp!

Michael Burnett - another great shot! Looks like a doll to me rather than a live animal :-)

Roberta Davidson - probably the artistic shot of this week

Bal Soora - you've made her skin look so beautiful, this shot is a candidate for a skin cream ad :-)

Thanks, Tiffany, for your compliment. I admire your portrait skills and, to be able to shoot good portrait pictures, you definitely know how to manage light. To me, It's frustrating at times trying this but it is so rewarding to see a decent shot coming out of the camera.
To the other newbies (though I am a newbie myself) ... the book is a very very good investment, considering how much we spend on gears.
