kevin h. y. lui.
Hi,
I just received my Retina II (142), however the RF needs to be calibrated vertical and horizontally. Besides the shutter is slow and weak to fire in slow speed.
Can anyone tell me how to CLA this camera? Thank you.
Rick_van_Nooij
Removing the complete top cover:
-The rewind wheel is held on by two screws in the stem, there is also a little sheet metal part in there, but I've not figured out what it does exactly, keep an eye on it and reinsert it when reassembling.
-The winding knob can be removed by turning it in the opposite direction of the arrow.
-Remove the screws holding down the top and you can just lift it all up; The shutter-release button should pull right out with the top, just be mindful that you insert it in at the correct angle when reassembling
What ever you do, DO NOT touch the beam-splitter! The gold coating tends to flake off from simply staring at it!
I believe Richard Oleson had a sketch of how the RF mechanism works and which screws to turn to fine tune it on his website.

Good luck. I need to reallign my RF in my model 142 as well.

Rick
charles_stobbs3
Thie website - http://rawhiti.tripod.com/ - has lots of info. In addition to running a Retina repair shop Chris' pages have useful stuff for the DIYer.
kevin h. y. lui.
I did some searching but Richard Oleson and Chris' pages do not include any information about Retina II (type 142). I tried to remove the front element but no success. Only the front element can be taken out. So how to remove the front group elements ?

Thanks for a chuckle Rick. Not many are brave enough to own up, as a man does..... :)

I have a Retina I (101, I think), that badly needs a general overhaul, I actually bought it for that. Let us know when you get further along. Many of us will be watching and will appreciate any thing you learn.
kevin h. y. lui.
I removed all screws of the RF unit and put them back . Everything works again by luck.
However I notice it is rather difficult to rewind film after shooting. The connection between the rewind knob and the fork below is loosen.I am trying hard to fix them.
Rick_van_Nooij
There is a chance I have that sketch for the RF adjustment in the 142 on my HDD at home. But it sounds like you've figured it out yourself.

I'm not sure about the rewind wheel and stem getting loose, perhaps someone tried to force it with the lock engaged.
kevin h. y. lui.
I got it fixed by pressing down the little metal cover. It helps to enable the V-shaped little metal plate ( below the cover) lock the joins.
CLA a Retina II 142 is not easy, especially the RF. Its design is totally different from the letter version. The vertical adjustment is done by turning 2 little screws on the metal bar, which opposite to the round wheel.
