yoshio
Jonathan

I consider myself to be a camera equipment agnostic. Started with Agfa, moved to Aries -> Olympus OM-1 -> Pentax MX then added a Chinon CE-4 body-> switched to Minolta x700 -> Canon EOS then after some years using that supplimented mainly by Nikon Digital moved to Panasonic (keeping a skeleton of Canon EOS film and 2 lenses). This is only my 35mm equipment sheet film not included.

While I have been a Canon owner I have researched Nikon extensively and considered moving at one stage quite seriously over to Nikon FM. After starting on the MX metering system when I picked up my first EOS 1 I knew this was exactly right. This is not to say I have no disagreements with Canon.

Speaking pragmatically it is hard to argue against a good condition used 5D today. I would put the technical screen in it and it would be a perfect match for my other OM lenses (well, no IRIS operation and maybe metering issues, but apart from that). Coincidentally my film EOS cameras meter perfectly well with the Olympus lenses although my 10D 20D did not.

In terms of heft, I think that what you say is about right. It is no OM1 that is for sure. But I still have mine for when I wish to use film ^-^

claudinho
I have some Minolta lenses and flash suitable to 4/3. For that reason I choose Olympus to take advantage of that. Well my budget is very limited for now also...that's another reason but sshhht!!
After buying my E-510 kit I realize advantages and drawbacks of 4/3 system. I'm happy after all.
With the collection of lens you have I'd choose an E-30...(for the viewfinder and other specs)
If lens and money are not a concern..then I'd choose Canon system directly.
claudinho
This was duplicated..but let me add.. If you buy Canon you have to spend in an expensive zoom (kit zoom is very soft)
With Olympus at least kit zooms have acceptable image quality..much better than a point and shoot.
jonathan_maloney
Verdict is; wait for the E-30 successor. Though my girlfriend is saying she'd like to use a DSLR now with the OM lenses, and she has small hands so now I'm looking at the E-620 or the GF-1 / EP-1 again. Sigh.
