tammy_mojo
Hi all, I'm in the process of making a site that I won from LIVEBOOKS, live. One of the things I want to include on my site is access to my blog page where I share what I've been shooting as far as engagements, portraits, weddings, family shots, etc.

Can anyone suggest the best blog out there for photographers. One that is quite easy to use, free, and customizable?

Thanks everyone!

Charles_Webster
I use Wordpress for my blog about guitar photography http://www.charlesLwebster.com/blog . I installed a 3rd-party Theme package and did a little CSS editing and I have a very custom-looking blog. I like the ease of editing and posting, and the spam control features.

You can install the s/w on your host, or you can use their hosted version, though I don't know if you have the same capabilities for customization.

<Chas>

fishit
Charles has a good suggestion and a nice blog, below is another suggestion.
Tammy you might also look at blogspot.com, they have some pre-made designs to give you some ideas. You can also purchase and use a private domain name they host for free. Not sure if you can do that on Wordpress yet.
sknowles
The answer depends if you want to host the blog or have another Websites, eg. Blogspot (which I use), host it. The former requires the software and your host, the latter, just register and start. Blogpspot is ok if you don't want to present large images, but as said, it has a lot of themes and you can modifty them to your preferences. The only real problems with Blogspot are two. One is that the images are hosted on Picassa. You don't need an account and they're not public outside of the blog, but it helps to have a Google account (who own Blogspot). And two, once an image is posted you can't remove it, even as a duplicate, from Picassa, as it removes it from the blog. It's also nearly impossible to find the blogs with the duplicate images. Otherwise, it works, it's easy to use and manage posts (allowing draft version, redating entries, etc.).
juhaniv
I have been building my Photo website/blog with WordPress for the past few days now ( http://www.jv-photos.net/) Wordpress is definitely customizable and you can build static pages as well - not just the blog. There are plenty of plugins that can be used for image viewing and galleries, but you may need to do some manual tweaking to get the look you want.
I had no prior Wordpress experience, and it took a few evenings to build my site, but I probably did many things the hard way.
photo_galleries
I loaded the Wordpress software offered by my site hosting company, and then chose the Zack 990 theme, which was inspired by Boston Globe's The Big Picture site.

My photoblog's at http://www.kalahi.net

Boston Globe's The Big Picture is at http://www.boston.com/bigpicture/
hoshisato
I host my blog myself and had no problems setting up a blog with Pixelpost from http://www.pixelpost.org/ and there are plenty of attractive templates available. All for free.

Have a look at the results: http://monochrome.me.uk/blog/
isabella_southgate
Wordpress has a lot of functionality especially with all the plugins available... it does everything I need.
phule
For a straight-up photo-a-day photoblog, I think Pixelpost has the edge. But if you're looking for posting written blog entries as well as photos, Wordpress is the way to go. I use both, b.t.w.
