Bessa R3A + Jupiter 8

<p>Hi, could anyone tell me whether the Jupiter 8 allows aperture priority with the R3a. I am really keen to have one of these bodies and have a mint Jupiter 8 already, it may be a while before I could purchase some further glass.</p>

<p>Yes, it will work. All lenses will work in manual or aperture priority mode.</p>

<p>You will need an LTM to M adapter ring. (Of course, if your Jup-8 is Contax mount, then it won't fit).</p>

<p>Its off my Zorki 4, has a screw thread and is black edition. Is that the right one?<br>

Is this combo worth the spend now or should I just wait till I can afford a better lens?</p>

<p>"Is this combo worth the spend now" - you already have the lens, and a LTM to M converter does not cast that much...</p>

<p>Russian LTM lenses will not focus accurately on a Leica standard camera such as the Bessa. Russian LTM cameras have a rangefinder that is a copy of the Contax rangefinder, and Russian LTM lenses are designed to work correctly with that. With a Jupiter 8 you'll probably only notice it at f/2 and maybe at f/2.8 when focussing close. (I notice a discrepancy of a couple inches when using my J8 wide open on my Leica IIIf at close focus distances). At smaller apertures and mid to far distance there will be no problem. To make a Jupiter 3 useable wide open at f/1.5 it will have to be shimmed/adjusted for close focus.</p>

<p>Yes, that is the correct lens for a Bessa, you just need an LTM to M adapter.</p>

<p>I have not seen any focus issues, even wide open, using a newer black Jupiter-8 on my Bessas or RD-1.</p>
