kevin h. y. lui.
Just got a FD 24mm chrome nose from a flea market with unexpected low price.
I wonder how much does it worth actually? And how to know if it has separated lens group?
richterjw
I would check KEH to see if they have it and what it's listed as. You could also check recent completed auctions on Ebay. Those should give you a pretty good estimate. JR
kevin h. y. lui.
Thank you :)
I wondered whether if it is rare than SSC version. It seems that most of them are available in SSC rather than my chrome nose version.
mark_pierlot
Kevin, generally speaking, chromes noses are rarer than the later SSC's. Rarer (and better) still than the FD 24/2.8 is the 24/2. Unfortunately, there wasn't an f/2 version of the FD 24mm chrome nose, but there is an FD 24/2 SSC and a FDn 24/2. Check out this Canon Camera Museum page for info on the FD 24's (you'll have to go to another page for the FDn's): http://www.canon.com/camera-museum/camera/lens/fd/17-35.html.

It sounds like you got quite a steal at the flea market.
User_502260
By looking through the back you should be able to see whether the rear element group has separation. My 24 is the odd 24/2.8 FD SSC with the chrome front. Its separation was repaired by Ken Ruth at Photography On Bald Mountain in Davenport, CA.
alan_swartz
On my fifth try I found one with only a very slight separation, where the previous attempts were really unusable. This lens has just a faintly yellow band around the edges of the separated doublet. It just looks like a faint ring at the edges.
kevin h. y. lui.
I checked the rear element and found no separation. It is a very good news to me. But the leather case spoil everything because of the oxidized sponge is everywhere (How to remove them? They are really messy...). I think it should the the case of the cheap price. But what causes it cheap in auction websites?
And my front cap is a screw in type without canon's symbol, I have never seen this before. Is the original cap?
