Contax G2 problem

so i just got a contax g2, but i am having some trouble. when the lens is on the camera the shutter will not fire, it wont autofocus, and the viewfinder doesn't display the f-stops. when i take it off it all works perfectly. any ideas?<!-- IBF.ATTACHMENT_3392788-->

<p>Well the obvious is low batteries and a properly mounted lens. That said, I have seen problems where users, unfamiliar with the lens mounting system, have accidentally damaged the gold contacts on the lens. Check the nine contacts. They should be clean and undamaged. Make sure you have nine.</p>

<p>With the lens mounted, try to fire under what is considered <strong>manu</strong><strong>al</strong> focus mode. If it does fire, then it's a confirmation of a lens to body AF communication error/fault.</p>

<p>You may have a problem with the AF- lens interface that would require the chip in the lens t be replaced. I had a similar problem once with the G2 and it turned out to be a fault of the 28mm lens chip. You didn't say whether other lenses cause the same issue, but if it's only one, I'd take a look at the lens first.</p>

<p>If you have another G lens to try on the body and you have no problem, then the fault is likely with the first lens. Otherwise, you have to bite the bullet and have it sent away for a looksee. Tocad in NY still services the G's.</p>

<p>My G2 had recently also stopped auto focusing. Probably a problem with the motor.<br>

Does anybody know where it can be serviced in Europe?</p>

<p>mat, the G2's shutter doesn't fire when the dial at the top left is set to double exposure (double frame icon). this sometimes happens by accident and after two exposures have been taken, the shutter release doesn't respond until you return the dial to single frame or another setting. (at least, that was the case when I bought my G2 second hand - also kept wondering why it didn't work). by the way, the viewfinder display only shows exposure times and distance.</p>

<p>I suggest to clean 9 contacts on the body and on the lens with some neutral cleaner (I use isopropyl diluted with distilled water 7:3), or clean alcohol (vodka and other drinks and NOT clean alcohol, they have some stuff in).</p>
