e_flynn
Hey everyone. I recently shot my first few rolls of Kodachrome and was wondering if there was a difference between sending them directly to Dwayne's or through Walmart. I know there's a price difference and I've also read you can't get the slides scanned via Walmart but my real concern is the mounts. I would like them mounted in mounts reading "Kodachrome" in red and not generic cardboard mounts. I called Dwayne's and the woman I spoke to was slightly pushy and it seemed she simply wanted me to send the film directly to them. Understandable, but she avoided answer my question. She also mentioned something about a Kodak box which I'd never head of. I'm guessing it's simply a yellow box. I'd appreciate any information my fellow photo.netters could provide.

Thanks
patrick_mont
If you send directly to Dwayne's it will come back just like WalMart BUT, Dwayne's for $1 or $2 extra they will put them in mounts that say Kodak in red on them. Personally, I am having all of my last Kodachromes done like this because I like it this way and I find it closest to having the mounts say Kodachrome.....
dangoldman
if someone wants proof that my film is kodachrome, i'll happily show them the leader that i keep with each roll of film. I remember a few years ago someone threw a fit on another forum when they found out they couldnt get the kodachrome mounts anymore... i just didnt understand it, we all knew kodachrome did have a lot of life left back then and he was throwing a fit and saying he didnt want to shoot it anymore because the mount wouldnt say kodachrome anymore... does it really matter? but hell for another dollar its up to you to get something close... my sleeves are a mix of red from dwaynes, green from fuji, and then white and black mounts from a couple of the now defunct local labs...
matroskin
if you send directly to Dwayne's, your order form has an option for Kodak mount. if you send through walmart you have no options - it's basic service only. the customer service person was pushy because there are a lot of people calling asking the same question even though the answers are all around you. :)
mendel_leisk
Decades of less than ideal storage left me with Kodachromes bowing in their mounts. Between that and the cropping opening with rounded corners, I ended up shucking maybe 800 Kodachromes, scanning in special full frame tensioning mounts, and then transferring them to cheap Gepe 2 piece plastic mounts. Not too enamored with KC mounts.
dangoldman
how did you store them where they were able to warp? most all of my slides are in cardboard mounts from dwayne's. I have them stored in sleeves so i guess they'll be held flat, but, what did you do?
mendel_leisk
Most of mine were in plastic sleeves (the 20 to a page kind), and a few in the little cases they come in from processors. We had a fair number of house plants over the years, and live in coastal climate, that'll do it I guess.
