durr3
I just bought a low miles used M8, but it had no strap. What is your favorite strap for the M8? Thanks
g-man1
Upstrap for rangefinders; better-- a luigi wrist strap.

john_shriver
Luigi's leatherwork is exceptional. Won't take better pictures, but it's a work of art in itself. I have the Canon 7s half-case and strap set, and love them.

sitemistic
I use both Upstrap and Domke grippers, but I do have a Luigi strap and it is just supple and comfy. Smells great, too! :) But the Upstrap really locks the thing on your shoulder. Not so comfortable around the neck, though.

james mitchell dc
Jim, I looked at the Upstrap, and it looks nice, but on their site they don't show if they have protection against the camera body as the Gripper has. What does it attach with--any leather protectors outside the rings?

robert gordon
For more than 30 years I've been using rawhide boot laces as camera straps for my Leicas. Never had one break whereas I have had Domke and OpTech straps break; fortunately in both instances I managed to grap my camera as it started to slide off my shoulder.
I have the UpStrap but just don't care for it. The straps Leica supplies with their M cameras are very nice.
bill_pearce1
The strap that came with my new M9 is very similar to the upstrap, so much so that I'm surprised there's no litigation. I'm as happy with it as my upstraps, which are an essential part of owning a camera. Although they are not supple, or beautiful or a piece of fine art, they do keep the camera on your shoulder like no other. Great for shooters, lousy for fondlers. Get one or the other.
Bill Pearce
rroberto
I like the one that came in the box (1975) with my Olympus OM-1. Been using it for all these years, never a problem. The best part is that unlike the modern straps, it doesn't have a camera logo emblazoned on it that you can see two blocks away.
jay_66
UP strap, hands down. Best frigging strap for any M camera, bar none!
ray .
Unless I've stopped for lunch, camera is in my hand 90% of the time with the Leica strap wound around my wrist. The end of the moderately sized rubber pad is gripped between my little finger and palm, which helps stabilize the whole set-up. Looking at the Up strap, it appears it would be great for holding the camera on your shoulder, but wouldn't the large pad get in the way while shooting? It also looks a bit awkward to me with the pad being so much larger than the relatively narrow strap.

jcgoodman
I have bagfuls of straps, from vintage to modern; ditto Leica camera bodies, lenses and accessories all in working condition. I might soon mortgage my house to fund purchase of a Leica M9 which will be a splendidly modernising addition to my Leica 35mm armamentarium. However, the M8 is unlikely ever to find a place in my studio - it is simply not a "35mm" camera!

jenny_jaques
Dear Kevin and John Charles, obviously you were so nauseated by the sight of it, you overlooked a few details, and that it is not just another dressed up M8, but in fact the "Leica M7 Edition Herpes" ! Wow!
....
Oh dear, I just did it myself. That should be: "Leica M7 Edition Hermes" ... oops.
