lfbrown
Thank you, Michael, but Bjorn doesn't cover all the lenses and following the chain from the second link ("here") I found the Nikkor 105 M (which happens to be one of particular interest at the moment) is not listed and the specs the link for the Nikkor 105 W gives fail to mention image circle.
bob_salomon
105W = 155mm @ f22 so it barely covers 4x5.
lfbrown
How about the image circle on the Nikkor 105 M, Bob? I would appreciate that info if you have it. thanks
bob_salomon
110mm @ f22. covers 6x9cm only not 4x5. In comparison a modern 100mm Apo Sironar S covers a 155mm circle @ f22.
lfbrown
Thank you very much, Bob. Is your information source a publicly accessible one? I tried getting a list and specs from Nikon - even called them - and they seem to have forgotten that they ever made these lenses.
lfbrown
Bob, my immediate goal is to put a decent lens on my baby Crown Graphic (6 X 7 and 6 X 9 backs) as economically as possible. The Nikkor 105M is a compact, as I understand it, and while I may not be able to close the camera with the lens in place it shouldn't be a problem as far as mounting on the board goes. The 105 W I'm not sure of - sounds like it might be a little on the large size.

lfbrown
Thanks, Chris. That's pretty much the entire list with all relevant info except for the 105 M. A link that Michael Swierzbinski sent me to had the same lens missing in that list as well. I'm happy, however, to have all the rest.
The catalogs Bob mentions are what I was hoping Nikon had archived somewhere on the web for download but apparently not.
I appreciate everybody's help.
michael_briggs2
Nikon Europe has a PDF file of the brochure of the Nikon LF lenses that were available at the end of the line: http://www.europe-nikon.com/downloads/A==/DaJquIALgFokITW7BKBJltl2tq1YNeup/Fu3ep3TPpoXILY5eTLBJVD_inBWLGaS1/P3wMIAue7Uqou5UJnRdEf/LF_lenses_141A.pdf

The 105 mm Nikkor-M was only briefly made and was discontinued a long time ago. I confirm that an old brochure listed the coverage diameter at f22 as 110 mm. bob_salomon
Les, modern 100mm lenses and 105mm lenses like the Nikon and the Rodenstock are all mounted on the same size shutter and all are small lenses. The 100mm Nikon W took a 40.5mm filter had a 42mm front diameter and was 31.5mm in diameter at the rear element. It was 37.5mm long in shutter. The 105mm M took the same size filter, had the same front diameter had the same size rear element and was 35.5mm long. The 100mm Apo Sironar S takes a 49mm filter, has a 51mm front diameter, has a 31.5mm rear diameter and is 42.6mm long.
In other words, all modern 100mm lenses will fit your camera. You just need a lensboard with a 0 hole (34.8mm diameter) for any of them.
If you wanted the absolutely highest performance in a lens of this type on your camera you could also use a lens like the 105mm 5.6 Apo Sironar Digital which also uses a 49mm filter and a 31.5mm rear diameter and is 48.6mm long and also comes in the 0 shutter.
lfbrown
Bob, Thanks very much for the additional info. My interest in the 105M stemmed from the relatively low price compared to some of the other lenses discussed. There is a 100mm 5.6 APO Sironar N available at the moment for about a third more than the M. It is not the "Digital" one that you mention, however.
friedemann_pistorius
Les,

might be of interest:

Fujinon-NW 5.6/105 (labeled Fujinon-W on the barrel), 6/6 construction, 76 degr. coverage, 162mm image circle at f22, Copal 0, 46mm filter, multicoated, discontinued.

or

Fujinon CMW 5.6/105, 6/5 construction, 78 degr. coverage, 174mm image circle at f22, Copal 0, 67mm filter, multicoated, current model.

I'd prefer the first lens: smaller, lighter, convenient filter size.
I use several Fujinon lenses (some 30 year old, some bought new this year) and I'm nothing but happy with every lens I own.

Hope this helps

Friedemann
bob_eskridge2
The Nikon 105/3.5 is a 4 element Tessar lens where most of the other lenses mentioned are more modern 6 element designs. I wouldn't consider it extra special but it should be pretty good stopped down.
