Looking for film for a Polaroid One Camera....any film!

Recommended Posts

I have Polaroid One camera from about five or six years ago and I recently searched around for film and it's so expensive! I'm not sure what types of Polaroid (or even Fujifilm) are compatible with it and I'm really open to any suggestions. I'm not picky about picture quality (and I'd prefer black and white pictures but it's not a huge deal). What types of film will work in this camera? Do I HAVE to get the 600 film? Are there other brands of instant film that are compatible?

Any advice is appreciated!
The Impossible Project inspires Polaroid to re-launch Instant Cameras. Polaroid announced at a press conference on October 13th in Hongkong that they will re-launch some of the most famous Polaroid Instant Cameras. Therefore they are commissioning The Impossible Project to develop and produce a limited edition of Polaroid branded Instant Films in the middle of 2010.

Well in theory all polaroid cameras can do b&w. But since the film has stopped being manufactured you're relying on existing stocks, often at huge prices.
There *is* an alternative manufacturer - Fujifilm makes b&w instant film that can be used in polaroid cameras. The films are FP100B and FP3000B. They're pack films (Polaroid type 100) that can be used with medium format cameras (with the correct film holders), and with many models of Polaroid camera. BTW one of the Polaroid B&W pack films is 664 which can still be found at places like Polapremium.
There's a magnificient web site for Polaroid information - the Land List, I've put the address for the section on pack film type cameras:
They vary in price, some have plastic lenses; others are incredibly well specced (eg. 600 SE).

There are a few caveats.

- Yes you can shoot B&W Fuji film, but only in the correct cameras.

- Unfortunately those cameras are almost exclusively very very old, being the models in production from the mid-1960s until the late 1970's, with only a few models produced later as limited edition special runs.

- Also unfortunately, most of those cameras require a battery to run as they have a magnetic shutter. Any used Polaroid Folding Pack Film camera will not be functional without replacing the battery.

- The good news is that the battery can be replaced with a battery pack running AAA batteries, including rechargeables, but you will probably want to find the assistance of someone who can solder it all together for you.

- Also unfortunately, the Fuji film packs don't 100% fit into the old Polaroid bodies, so jams are common.
