From early in the week, long exposure sunsets, to the eye the sky was already quite dark. To an open shutter, why, there's still plenty of light. Both from a tripod mounted K20D and Sigma 18-50 F/2.8 lens.

Below- The horizon was absolutely on fire for about 20-30 seconds. Wonder how many others in my area witnessed this?
50mm, 2.5 seconds, F/22, ISO 100.

Below- 4 minutes later than above: I really like how the wide, vertical shaft of red light was picked up. At sunrise/sunset, these colors are so fleeting... Right place at the right time... Most folks just don't pay attention.
24mm, 5 seconds, F/22, ISO 100.

Two shots this week from the Portland Japanese Garden. Tripods are allowed for $2 entry fee. I think I was the only Pentaxian out of the hundreds of shutterbugs. I struck up a conversation with a Nikon guy and jokingly said " I'm probably the only Pentax shooter here at the moment" and he laughed and said" Yeah, probably because they were late to the whole DSLR game". Wow I guess that is one perception, plus I honestly think many people think Pentax is dead and out of business from other conversations I've had lately...

00Uq0P-183419584.jpg.286405c1168a80854b004f44025ec049.jpg

I went out to a local park that a river runs parallel to shot some Eagles, Found none, so I made the best of it. I had no fall pictures, so I took some, ran into an elderly man who stopped and asked what I was doing...the photo session ended but I enjoyed our two hour chat.

All pictures shot with a K110D - SMC Pentax-DA 1:3.5-5.6 18-55mm lens kit with a 0.45x wide angle screw on lens.

Picture #3 - While shooting, saw this guy buzz by, did not have much time other then to aim and shoot. This is Google mapping, I went home and check the map to see if I was on it, didn't see, I'll check monthly, not sure how long it takes for them to update.

Just one for now--near the end of my ferry ride to work on Thursday morning, I noticed a surge of people heading outside. They were checking out an orca whale that was part of a pod that was uncommonly close to the boat and to the shoreline. Every October pods of orcas cruise Puget Sound (most of the whales live further north in the Straits of Juan de Fuca and among the San Juan Islands near Canada).

Of course attached to my K20D at the moment was the widest possible lens (DA 12-24), so i had to exchange the DA 70mm, jostle for position, and get off a few shots as we rapidly approached the dock. Unfortunately the whale had already descended and we were headed the other way, so this is the only usable shot. But the reality was really cool, definitely worth the fare.

I am finally getting around to my shots from Yellowstone in September.

As I was walking across the Fishing Bridge a herd of bison came by, this confused one decided it was going to cross the bridge instead of swimming like the others. Needless to say it was great to be this close it was also a bit too close for comfort.
Not the best Old Faithful, about 10 minutes prior to it going off the sky was beautiful blue.

I made a mistake and posted this to last weeks POW, so here I am reposting it here.
Trying a new post process technique by adding vignetting to add a more dramatic feel and to remove any distraction of the background. I included a hint of the red rose in the background as a sort of "reflected" or "double image"
