nima_m
Hey guys,
I was hoping I could get some advice from you veterans for my upcoming one week trip to Cuba next month in terms of preparation for a wedding I was invited to shoot.

I have the basics covered, I think. 2 cameras, a few primes, a flash, a diffuser, spare batteries, a tripod, a bag for all the gear, valid Canadian passport, Plane tickets, medical insurance...I think I'm covered okay for gear and basic stuff...anything I miss?

I'm not planning on shopping or partying, just going there to shoot and take in the scenery as much as I can.

Please advise. Thank you.
julien_t
I am no veteran but I went to Cuba 2 times and took a lot of nice pictures there. I went to Havana and Trinidad.
Don't be afraid to talk to the people , they are very nice. It will help you if you want to take good portraits. Give them small gifts could help as well.
Don't be afraid of people asking you money, if you just say no they won't be angry.
You can take superb street photgraphy there.

Julien

arie_vandervelden1
Do not leave your gear unattended, anywhere, at any time. Lock your suitcase when you leave your hotel room and do not leave anything out in the open.

Do not bring a cell phone or laptop. It may get confiscated at customs. However I haven't had any trouble getting camera gear in.

Bring sunscreen and DEET.

Fill your suitcases full of stuff to give away. Bring unneeded clothing, toiletries, school supplies, perhaps even powdered milk. The situation in Cuba is desperate and you'll really make a difference in people's lives. Do not be shy in approaching people when giving stuff away. If you must, you can always go for a walk around town and leave items at each street corner ;)

Whatever you do, bring stuff for the Cubans. They need it.
