hjoseph7
Would you really take a bright red, green, or orange camera to a model shoot or wedding ? Pentax currently offers colors on someof their DSLRs, I forget which model.

hjoseph7
How about this a green polka dot suit, a red Pentax DSLR and some orange Alien bees. That should attract allot of customers.
ed_v.
It's got more to do with the bottom line than anything else. Pentax (and Panasonic & others) felt that for their target market there would be enough of a demand for multiple camera colors that it would offset the extra cost of having to manufacture and stock the different colored housings. Same goes for the silver Rebels. This is nothing new to the P&S world where often the only purchase criterion is style. If Canon thought they could make more money by selling a turquoise bodies, they would. Apparently they feel the performance alone is enough. That said, I wouldn't mind seeing some Canon bodies in "L" white.
JDMvW
Old pre-war Kodak cameras, often those meant "for the ladies", were available in a wide range of colors. If you are into older film cameras, there are vast numbers of fancy leathers and other materials for "recovering" them. I have a lovely red Exakta and a Rosewood "Leica". The early Praktiflexes were made in a variety of colors (although not as many were made at the time as now exist* :P).
The molded bodies of the current crop don't lend themselves to recovering, however; and professionals are more conservative than the "hip" crowd. Canon and the others, of course, do make a considerable range of colors in their point and shoot market offerings.

I'm not altogether sure that the effort to market special coverings by Pentax is a good sign. It may be innovation, but it could be desperation, too.

________
* It is thought that of some 1,700 1st-generation Praktiflexes covered in red, nearly 2,400 are now located in the United States.

thomas_chung4
The Rebel vs. xxxD always confuses me especially when I looked at the oversea magazines or discussed with my friends oversea. I have a thought. If Canon U.S. really want to stick with this silly name, they can make colored DSLR camera with a Rebel (or Kiss) label. While for people wants to have a more professional feel, they can buy xxxD labeled camera in black. This can meet both sides of the world – some people like fancy looks and feels while others would like to have a more pro-looks!
