steve_levine
The gems in my opinion are the AI 20 f3.5, 24 f2.8, 35 f2, 55 f3.5 micro, 85 f1.8, 105 f2.5, 135 f2.8, & 300 f4.5.
bjørn rørslett
Voigtländer 125 mm f/2.5 APO-Lanthar, 35/1.4 AIS, 16//3.5 Fisheye AI, and about 100+ other manual-focus lenses (latest addition: the mighty 360-1200/11 Zoom-Nikkor - now that is something outside the ordinary....). All CPU-modified of course.
nathancraver
Though I'm not one for off brand lenses, my favorite manual focus lens is my vintage Tamron Adaptall 90mm f/2.5 macro lens. This thing is incredibly sharp at all f stops and works great with a 2x teleconverter. I use it for normal as well as macro photography. If you want to talk about medium format, then I must say that I love my Bronica GS-1 65mm and 150mm PG lenses as they are incredibly sharp as well.

Landrum Kelly
I love my manual focus Nikkor 600 f/4 and my Nikkor 50/1.2 AI-S (the latter in part because I like to avoid using flashes when possible).

I often use them on Canon digital bodies, but I do have an old F5 that I can't part with. Can't afford to go Nikon digital yet.

--Lannie
bourboncowboy
I've got a 28 3.5 "K" lens that I Ai'd. I picked it up on a whim for about $35, and spent about the same on the Ai kit. It's a great little lens, and makes a great wide angle compliment to my 75-150 Series E as a two-lens walkaround kit on either the FE2 or D700.
Matthew Currie
I'm still shooting film, so that influences focal length choices, I presume. I have a growing list of favorites for certain things, but the one I still leave on the camera most of the time, and try to compose with before choosing something else is still the good old 50/f2 AI. It's not the camera course "bondage and discipline" or "zoom with your feet or go home" philosophy here. It's just that I prefer that perspective and that particular lens provides it without any bad habits of its own.

My other long time favorite is still the good old 105/2.5. Mine is the first generation of the 1971 Gauss design. It doesn't seem to suffer from only being single coated, and I did a "shade tree" AI conversion, so it's good to go on both the F's and the F3.
carl_becker2
I use my 28mm f2 AIS and 500mm f4 P most often. I don't really have a favorite but I may just pickup the 24mm PC-E.

spanky
For my F2 I settled on the 28mm F2.8 AiS. It's really a fantastic lens, however after a year of using it I'm finding out I need something a little tighter, a little faster. I'm sure others here probably disagree but I've read on a couple different occasions that the 35mm Nikkor lenses just don't perform quite as well as other Nikkor wide angle primes. After some careful consideration, I decided to go with the Zeiss 35mm f2.0. I've heard nothing but stellar things about this lens. I've been checking on line as well as in the stores here in LA hoping to find a used one or better yet a demo, but it appears people who buy these lenses are keeping them. Not surprising given what I've read about it. Thankfully, it's bonus time for me at work soon so this will help lessen the shock to my wallet lol!

rustys pics
55mm f3.5 Micro Nikkor, AI mount. I took a shot of a Praying Mantis with it once, and could count the hairs on its legs.
