Is this a good idea or am I just barking up the wrong tree?

Dean, I like your photos and the design of the blog. My only suggestion is to categorize each photo rather than leaving them as Uncategorized which just doesn't seem professional.

Whether or not you choose to add to the blog weekly, or any other schedule, is a decision only you can make. But whatever schedule you decide, stick with it. A big turn-off is a blog with no recent posts. If the author lost interest why should I have any interest.

Thanks for your comment on my question. I checked out your web site-very nice . I really love your black and white photos. As far as the blog I agree with Bill. You need to add to it at least weekly. I have seen some of my favorite photographers who will blog so haphazardly that it doesn't look good and you just stop checking back to their website. If you can and like to keep up a blog that would keep a dedicated bunch of people coming back to see what you have done.
By the way who did you use to set up your site? This is what I want to do. Use a nice site like yours so when friends of mine asked to see my photos I can just say go to my website. I don't have the desire or ability to blog so I think I would just be content to have my photos to show. If you don't mind can you tell me how you designed your site, general cost and how much do you have to pay per year to keep it up.
Good luck. Paul

Hi Paul, I'm very blessed to have a son who is a computer scientist. There's no way I could do the coding he does to set up the website. I can do most of the work on my blog because I don't have to know code. Computer languages are totally foreign to me. All I have to pay for is the hosting which costs $10.00 per month and a percentage of my web sales to my son. I think thats a pretty good deal! If I didn't have the site I would probably do the same thing you are. Put my photos here and on places like Flickr which is free. I see quite a few photographers going to Smugmug. Don't know much about it but take a look there. Let me know if you have any other questions.
Good Luck,

Dean,

Very nice photos. The panorama at the top is excellent.

The dark background really makes the pictures pop.

But then you link to Flickr! They stupidly insist on a white surround, which really washes out the colors.

I've never been fond of the "continuous scroll" aspect of wordpress. Your son should be able to easily build additional pages to display your pictures on your own site, and link to them when you click the photos on the left. That would both allow you to maintain your color scheme and to stay away from the long, long scroll.

Hope this helps. -- Greg
