michael s.
An apparently self-taught photojournalist has won a $500,000 fellowship from the prestigious MacArthur Foundation.

She is based in Istanbul, but has photographed very widely in conflict areas.

I was not previously familiar with her photos -- at least not by name. But I took a look at her website and saw a number of impressive shots:

http://www.lynseyaddario.com/

Incidentally, she was also the photographer for a "New York Times" Lens feature entitled "On Assignment: Taking Time Out to Heal"

http://lens.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/05/18/on-assignment-the-prolific-lynsey-addario-takes-time-out-to-heal/
