An active UK Film processing "Lab"

<p>In another thread mention was made of the 'Fuji Digital Imaging Service' who currently accept 8x11 format Minox films for processing.<br /> I am replacing the Minox C that I sold in 2008 with another one... so to be sure I sent an Email enquiring generally whether they handle, and more specifically can develop and scan to CD the films that I shall be using. <br /> This is their reply : Hi James, Yes we can! The cost for C41 colour dev and CD is £10.00 per film and £13.00 for your B+W.<br>

<p> Will do, Ian although it may be some time before I send the first film off; assuming the camera (arriving within the next 24 hrs) is in full working order. Bought from Ffordes, and based on previous transactions with them, I am not expecting otherwise.<br>

Perhaps you may grow tired of waiting for my report and so send your film off first :-)</p>

<p>This is really exciting news if they can make a decent job of it. They don't mention Minox film on their website. I'd love to see some results from their develop and scan service. I haven't run a film through my film Minoxes for a while!</p>

About the second block of text down they talk about extra costs for odd sized films. They do not mention Minox by name. If any of you are succesful, please let us know. It would be great news for other Minox'ers out there! </p>

Please let me introduce myself................ I'm Steve from Fuji Digital Imaging in Burnley. It's good to see you folks are talking about our company online.<br>

Yes we can process, print and scan minox films but we haven't been doing them for very long, hence no prices etc are on our website. We have just been processing the odd few films here and there just to see how they can be fitting into our everyday work flow, because they do take some time to scan, and time is money. We have been looking into prices we should charge for them, one that is fair to us and above all, you! We should have a minox page on our website within the next month or so but until then............ The cost are for dev and CD without any prints £10.00 for colour C41 and £13.00 for black and white. If you require prints too, then simply add another £5.00 Free return postage is included within these prices. You may have been quoted differently if you have phoned or emailed our lab over the last few months but these are our new prices to date and with any luck that just how they will stay. The problem we have, is they simply take a long time to scan manually by hand, so we have to charge accordingly.</p>

<p>Please keep up the good work people, minox film processing isn't dead yet!!!!</p>

<p>MS Hobbies (ex-Leicester, now Nairn 01667 451405) still do Minox d and p for colour and black and white. Like above, it takes time and effort and therefore money to scan the films to get the best results possible.<br>

All the effort that formerly went into printing now goes into scanning and post-scanning tidy up. With my Minox work, I found two killers.<br>

1. dust in the camera: the dust gets trapped by the light trap in the cassette, and scrapes across the whole film - get rid of the dust first.<br>

2 Always start the fim counter at the correct number of frames for the subtractive minoxes with film counters (ie not the EC). If you don't, and think, oh I wil start it at 45 for example, the negatives near the end of the roll will overlap as the film winds through.<br>

3. Forgetting that there is a film in the camera at all :)</p>

<p>Last week, Steve Britton of MS Hobbies told me had still had fresh Minox film 400ASA colour, in stock.</p>

<p>Just got my two films back, one minocolor one minopan, both well past their develop by date! It's great that this service has become available and I would urge everyone to use it. The results I got were variable as all my minox efforts have been in the past! Some out of focus shots, some of which may be user error but I do think some may be an issue of keeping the film flat during scanning, maybe caused by the length of time the film had been in the camera (several years!). I'll certainly use the service again and thank Steve and the team in Burnley for the effort in making it possible!</p><div></div>

<p>Can you remember the sensitivity (ASA/ISO) of the films? Very nice pictures =)</p>

<p>Both 100 asa, but don't forge they were well past their best! I certainly exposed them as 100 asa and the camera was a Minox IIIs. As I say some of the scans were less sharp than others but it's hard to tell whether that's my fault or it's down to the difficulty of the scanning process. It's nice to be able to use the Minox again reasonably economically after all this time!</p><div></div>

<p>Very good - I have always felt that getting any results out of Minox was a challenge, especially colour. I use my minox a for 'street' work. I found that if I tried to make a Minox compete with even say, 110 film, the hassle of using a tripod etc takes away from the 'was that a camera' value of using such a camera in the first place.</p>
