Refurbished Canonet GIII QL17

Recommended Posts

Finally recieved my little rangefinder today, then headed straight out and put a roll of Superia through it while I had my dog (Charlie) out for a walk in the 'New Forest'.
I must say I'm really happy with the camera's workings and the lens is pretty sharp too, although I didnt really put it to the test too hard, but the photos at 100% are sharp as a carving knife and they were only scanned using the scanners in Tesco. Cant wait to get future rolls in the Flex-tight back at uni. Have a look.

you can see the results here ---> HERE

Excellent camera and I'm sure you will have a lot of fun with it. Thanks for sharing.

I shot several rolls of Superia on holiday a few years back using a Leica IIIf. I had the local lab do the processing of all of them at the same time and I scanned the negs as usual. In one set of negatives nearly every exposure had a red hue to it as it seems these photos do. It only happened with one roll of film out of five or six. I don't know what caused the colour shift.

I agree they could do with a tad of colour correction possibly, they were just scanned to CD at my local Tesco so high Qual is something i dont realy expect.

the edges of my RF area are pretty non-existent, unlike the Mamiya6 which was a very defined rectangle in the middle (its the only other rangefinder I've used, is this normal?

Andy, the RF patch edges are non-sharp on my QL17 as well, as seen when I have my eye up to the camera. If I hold the camera 20 - 30 cm away from my eye and look at the VF, then the RF patch has sharp edges. I'm not sure whether this is to do with the camera's design or with my eyesight (myopic; wearing 4-dioptre eyeglasses), but I have read about this once before somewhere online that I can't trace at the moment. (RFF, probably.)

Thanks for sharing your update and pics. I bought one of these from an APUG member. Has become my 'standard' for street shooting. My Retina IIa and Yashica G have taken back seat to this baby. I tried a Minolta Hi-Matic 9..but prefer the Canonet. I think the viewfinder is really nice and the manual controls make it a winner IMHO. I use it to shoot B&W exclusively. Anyway, really enjoy seeing others enjoying this camera too. Cheers!
