How many of us could do something similar with our collections of historic slides?

An exhibit by Marblehead artist Michael Haley will be held at the Marblehead Arts Association, 8 Hooper St., Oct. 31 through Nov. 29. An opening reception will be held Sunday, Nov. 8, 2-4 p.m. with refreshments served.
Haley has an extensive background as both an advertising art director and freelance photographer that stretches from Madison Avenue to The Virgin Islands to Boston. Along the way, he has created national ad campaigns for clients such as Chanel, Clairol, The Red Cross, Sheraton Hotels, Liberty Mutual and GE. Clients such as Sheraton Hotels, Chanel, Travel & Leisure Magazine and the Virgin Islands Department of Tourism have published his photography.
In addition to numerous seminars, he has also taught Advertising Design at Montserrat College of Art, Endicott College and The Enterprise Center at Salem State College. Starting in 2003, he has exhibited both his painting and photography throughout the Metro Boston area.
In this exhibit, Michael Haley takes a fresh look at Marblehead, and especially Old Town, with a new series of digital images that go well beyond traditional photography. These images are taken from his collection of over 30 year’s of Kodachrome slides. They combine digital imagery, photography and mixed media such as pastels to give a fresh contemporary graphic look to familiar sights such as Abbot Hall and Fort Sewall.
Haley will also be exhibiting, for the first time, his new program he calls “Shoebox Memories.” It consists of the treasured family memorabilia that every woman has stashed in a shoebox (or boxes) up in the back of a closet somewhere. These can be anything from a prized teddy bear to grandma’s jewelry to grandpa’s medals to treasured honeymoon photos. It all deserves to be seen and appreciated by young and old alike. These are then photographed, retouched, rescaled and arranged in a photo collage. They are available framed or unframed, and as an animated video complete with self-mailer.
