Some thoughts on Portfolio Reviews

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,
I just recently got back from my first portfolio review at the Rencontres d'Arles festival, and wrote up my thoughts and suggestions for other photographers interested in such things. Here's the link. Let me know what you think, and send me any questions you may have about the whole process. It was definitely a worthwhile experience for me, one I'd recommend if you're interested in promoting your work.

Hi Gabriel. When I clicked your link, I got the message

Sorry, the page you were looking for in the blog Gabriel Benaim does not exist.

I think that this is the right link .

I enjoyed your tale. I remember my first portfolio review. I was like number four to be reviewed, and numbers 1, 2, and 3 (in my opinion) all had more well defined concepts, better execution on their work, and smoother presentations than I, and they all got ripped to shreds. I was trying to figure out how to make a surreptitious exit by my turn. Fortunately, it wasn't as bad as I feared.

It's an interesting experience, which I am still debated whether or when I will take the next bold step to present my portfolio. Thanks for sharing The last time I have my first Exhibition was more than 30 yrs ago, in a different country, now I wondered if anybody know an online review, where I send them the link to my portfolio for critic and how much does it cost for such service.

Thanks

The only person I can think of is Jorg Colberg who writes the blog Conscientious. Other than that, I'm not sure who else may do e-reviews. If you get the chance, even locally, I'd definitely try to do a live review, as there's a lot that can get lost/misinterpreted online.
