Why oh Why Landscape ?

Recommended Posts

I'm not usually interested in photos having a 'conceptual strength', and maybe that is part of why I prefer landscape to other kinds of photography. To me, concepts seem like quite shallow things, in many ways. They are a human conceit, they don't exist outside the rational mind.
So my photography is purely aesthetic, because I feel like the aesthetic response of a human being to nature is a much deeper experience, even if it is difficult to talk about it in clever ways to people who are wrapped up in conceptual thinking and shallow cleverness all the time.
I think my interest in Zen Buddhism is a related thing. Zen is very aesthetic and non-conceptual. I'm not actually a Buddhist, but I do think they are on to something!

How about emotion?, I like to photograph landscapes as i often i find a scene that catches the eye will also reflect my mood at the time.
I guess that probably makes taking these photos as a release, I don't know...
But i can tell you however that my favorate photos of my own are the ones that are in colour but appear to be greyscale, i guess i can instantly recognise how i felt when the shutter fired every time i see them.
Strangely enough i love your landscapes, not for the emotion but because they are instantly recognisable to me ( being fortunate enough to be a cantab) so while landscapes may not be your favorate pursuit, rest assured veiwing them, for me is a great pleasure
