joshroot
It helps that the G1 has the only EVF thus far that I could even stomach looking through. Prior to that I would have laughed at any EVF suggestions.
akira
Josh, I think that the excellent EVF of G1 was Panasonic's big bonus for the user and its strategic key to win the initial m4/3 race.
jtk
Akira you're right on most of those points...I don't like G1's pretend-DSLR look.. I admit that's shallow of me. G1's EVF is worse than standard APS viewfinders and far worse than bright line optical finders for people who want fast, bright, realistic clarity in viewfinder, who want, but won't pay for M8 for example.
Oly may soon that market...perhaps they'll even figure out a way for Leica lunatics to pay excessively for the privilege :-)

I bought Pentax K20d for the superb prism viewfinder and the pancake lenses..might have been M8 if I could have afforded it...G1 wasn't conceived for values like that but the new Oly m4/3 may have been, given the pancake prime and the optical finder.

I'll bet there's a ridiculously expensive 10mm (with accessory optical finder) soon :-)
akira
John, G1's DSLR look and possibilyty to hold the camera as DSLR are VERY important when I use my Nikkors 55/3.5 micro and 105/2.5 which functions as tele lenses on G1.

I liked my Leica Ms very much for what they were so long as they were FILM cameras. I don't like the idea of combining optical rangefinder and digital. Also, the necessity of always using UV/IR-cut interference filter is ridiculous to me. Of course, that's just my personal opinion. :)
jtk
Akira, understood. Differences make the world go 'round.
About that unfortunate cutoff filter.. I saw demonstration somewhere showing M8 sensor with or without that filter produces less moire with certain fine details, such as power lines and fine branches, than higher resolution DSLRs...R2 won't have that advantage. Leica mumbo-jumbo :-)
