wayne_mcconnell
Hello everyone, about a week ago i noticed when i upload my pictures to my computer, I noticed a small black dot when taking pictures of a light colors like the sky. I looked closer at the pictures on sreen on the camera and it's on there too. I tried to clean the inside of the camera with a Q-tip but that doesn't seem to help. Here's what the black dot looks like. Any help?
bsd230
Looks like it might be dust on your sensor. Use a hurricane blower and blow it off.
Matthew Brennan
Wayne,

At f/11 on this image - I'd have to say thats a large dust bunny and most likely still sitting on the sensor. Possibly on the rear element of the lens but I'd say the sensor is far more likely.

There is a ton of sensor cleaning information on the p.net search engine.

I'd suggest you try using an air blower rocket like the Giottos Rocket before you physically touch the sensor. I use 'Dust Aid' as a physical cleaning method (all dry method- no fluid involved). Others will chime in with more info - I will put up with very small dust bunnies which I can clone out of the image but that one there is very large and right in the centre of the frame.

eric_arnold
that's either a dust bunny or a UFO. i'd be careful with a q-tip if i were you. use an air blower and/or pec-pads, sensor brush and eclipse instead. nice pic otherwise.
joseph_leotta
I read a article where one of the safest way to clean a sensor was with a gentle puff of air from a turkey baster. ( make that a new unused and dust free one)
phototransformations
Amazing that you have a D50 and this is the first time you have noticed dust!
Peter_in_PA
The blower I use is basically a turkey baster in smaller size, it blows dust off my D50 sensor just fine.
greg_alton
Is the D50 known for having a problem with dust? I've had one for years with no dust issues.
