canonfduser
I just picked up this lens and went out to test it on my D700 and it focuses very fast and accurately too. I was using it with a monopod on a semi sunny day and the images are crisp. When I get a chance I want to test it with my Sigma tc's. Just want to know if anyone else uses this lens and what do you think of it? What kind of results have you gotten with it? What's the optical performance like with tc's, how much image degredation should I expect? The lens will probably see occasional sports use with the kids but I got it mostly to photograph the birds and wildlife in my backyard, I live out in the country in east Tennesee. As much as I love Nikon lenses the 300f2.8's of any modern AF vintage are out of the question until I hit the lottery.
Mark

bsd230
I don't own it but have used it, it is a very nice lens. I have always been impressed with Sigma's higher end lenses. Usually Sigma is my go to after I realize I can't afford what I want from Nikon.
canonfduser
George, great picture. I appreciate the comments and will have to give the extension tube a try someday. Brian, like you I dream about the Nikon and then settle for the Simga and I'm always surprised at how good the EX series is, they really do rival more expensive Nikon's imo. All I need now is a heavier tripod/ballhead so I can start using the 300 more. I'm currently using it handheld or on a monopod and the results are good but not spectacular yet.
