tele_tele
Hi,
can someone be kind enough to post working distances for Nikkor 105mm and Nikkor 200mm macro lenses for various enlargment ratios?
I am very interested in working distances for 1:1, 1:2, 1:3 and 1:4 ratios since I intend not to take photographs only of small bugs but also of snakes and shy reptiles.
Can be also MFD's for those ratios instead of working distance, I can do the calculations later.
Thank you in advance.

jose_angel
I have my 105/4 here: 1:1=0.42mts (with PN-11), 1:2=0.47mts., 1:3=near 0.55mts., 1:4=near 0.66mts. I can read this distances on the lens barrel.
The 105VR has shorter working distances: 1:1=0.31mts., 1:2=0.4mts., 1:3=0.5mts., 1:4=0.6mts.
tele_tele
Thanks Jose!
It seems magnification decreases fairly quickly on 105mm macro lenses.

These are minimal focus distances right? Not from the end of lens (working distance) but from sensor/film (focus distance)?
jose_angel
Right. A 105/4 without hood is 15cms. at 1:2 (a bit more than 20cms. with the PN-11 if 1:1), the 105VR is less than 12cms at any magnification. Add 4.65cms. for the flange focal lenght and you will know the overall lenght from the lens "nose" to the sensor/film plane.
alan_olander1664878205
Because some (most?) macro lenses decrease in focal length as you focus closer, the difference in working distances aren't always what you'd expect when comparing lenses. The older 105mm/f4 seems to maintain its focal length as it is focused closer.

Here is a link with a chart of working distances for different lenses:

http://www.nikonians.org/forums/dcboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=169&topic_id=4276&mesg_id=4276&page=
