jennifer_collins1
Hi. I'm just wondering if anyone knows what could have gone wrong for the Walgreens website to not recommend I print some digital images on 4x6, or any other size print except wallet size. Here's the deal, the pics were taken on the highest resolution possible with a 50mm 1.8 lens so some of the pics have a blurred background, but some of the pics have part of the images in focus, which is what I was going for. I ordered them online at Walgreens, but perhaps the computer can't tell that some of the image should be blurry and just automatically tells you not to print it.

Anyway, I guess I just have to get the pics developed and see, but it's really upsetting as these are pics of my friend's new baby right after he was born. The certainly look perfect on the computer, so what's the difference if they're going to be printed out?
Matt Laur
It's more likely that you were trying to upload copies of the files that were sized down to a lower resolution. What software are you using to handle the files on your desktop? This issue will have nothing to do with the content (out of focus or otherwise) of the images, but rather with how many pixels wide/tall the files are. Did you use something to make a web gallery or thumbnail versions of the images, and choose those by accident to upload for printing?
jim_marby
Jennifer,

Having a blured background makes no difference as to wheather or not you can get a 4x6 out of the file.
It sounds like you accidently uploaded a very low res file, that is all their system sees, that's why it recommended you not print it.
Check your file settings again to be sure you're camera is producing a large enough file, although you don't need a very big file to make a 4x6.

Jim Marby
jennifer_collins1
Hi. Yes, I copied the pics from my flickr account to my desktop and then uploaded them to the Walgreens website for printing. Should I upload them from my zoombrowser instead? That is the program into which the photos automatically go when I transfer them from my camera to the computer? Thanks so much for your help!
phule
You should upload the original JPG files from whatever folder your computer stores them.
All you need ZoomBrowser for, in this case, is to tell you where the images are located on your hard drive (if you don't already know).

If you want to download the full size images from flickr you need to first click the "All Sizes" button above the image and then click the link to the "Original." (This is, of course, assuming you uploaded full size images in the first place.)
davidlong
What's the resolution, and are you sure you uploaded the high-resolution version? I highly doubt there's any image analysis going on; it's 99.9% certain that it's warning you based only on the resolution of what you uploaded. jennifer_collins1
Thanks, Rob. Your suggestion worked. I chose to download the original size from flickr and then I uploaded it to the Walgreens website, and this time, I got no warning to not print. Awesome!! Thanks to others for responding as well.
[2300x3500 8MB digital watermelon pruned.]
lex_jenkins
Jennifer, I resized your photo upload to make it suitable for web display. A full resolution 2300x3500 8MB file is for printing, not web display. Resize a *copy* (not the original) to less than 800 pixels wide and less than 200-300 kb for web display.

It's a nice photo. Not razor sharp but the muted effect is very appealing.

jennifer_collins1
Another blurry pic. Hi Y'all. Here is an image which looks sharp on the computer, but when I try to send it for printing on 4x6, the website doesn't NOT recommend; however, the preview of the photo doesn't look nearly as sharp as here. Argh. Frustrating!
