john_kimball
I have been using Ilford Gold Fiber Silk for 8.5x11" black and white and so far it has come out very well. Since they do not offer a smaller size paper, what are ppl using for smaller blk and white prints?
howard_m
not alot is available in smaller sizes; you can trim/cut up some of the larger sheets.

you might want to check out red river paper; they have several quite nice papers, in small sizes.
roger_smith4
For 4x6 I'm using Epson Premium Semigloss and for a thicker paper Innova White Semi-matte 300 (you have to bend it back a bit or you'll get headstrikes.) For matte I use Innova Smooth White Cotton 315- an excellent paper available in many sizes.
paulh
I use Ilford's Smooth Pearl, in both A4 and 10x15cm sizes.
howard_m
I think GFS and Smooth Pearl are different enough that the OP may not like the results but certainly Smooth Pearl is a very good paper.
john_kimball
Thanks for the replies! I ordered a sample pack of Innova paper from Adorama so whenever they comeback to work it shall ship. I really like the Ilford Fiber Silk paper, the weight and the semi-gloss coating so that is what I am trying to find but in smaller sizes. I am not sure about cutting it though as I only have a pair of scissors.
howard_m
you should definitely check out Red River and get a sample pack.
you might also want to consider a real trimmer vs. scissors

john_kimball

I have a sample pack from Red River, but so far I like the Ilford Fiber Silk for Black and White photos. Harman FB AL is a bit more than I want to spend but I have heard great things about it. Which Red River paper would you use for Black and White and does someone have a link to a cutter/trimmer? Thanks!

howard_m
the trimmer? most of the experienced photo folks will tell you Rotatrim brand (from UK) but be sitting when you see the price. Just below that are the Dahle or Saunders brands.
the paper? a personal decision, sorry. I think that if GFS works for you (and it's a great! paper) and it's worth printing, you should just use it. In comparison to most other baryta papers, it's less expensive.
