jannekaakinen
Wow, one of the best WedNEsDAy PiC-threads so far!
I had a crazy week again and every time it was beautiful and sunny outside I was way too busy to shoot, and every time I had time it was really gray and dull outside. Anyway, here is another bird photo in this thread, taken with my trusted D50 (yep, ever since I bought that puppy again it has come with me everywhere I go) on my way to work on a monday morning.

eric_arnold
wowsers! quite an impressive Wednesday showing. jose, matthew b and gary m, simply outstanding stuff. love the gecko and the macro shots as well. hate to depart from the spring/landscape theme, but i do have another concert pic for y'all this week.

here's the story: i arranged a photo pass for the Fillmore aud. concert by Lila Downs. in case you havent heard of her, she's an amazing Latin/Mesoamerican singer with strong folkloric elements to her work, and she covers both Fleetwood Mac (by way of Santana) and Lucinda Williams on her new album.

anyway, i arrived at the fillmore around 9 for a 9:30pm showtime. the front of the stage was jammed tight with rabid Lila fans who had been there since 7p.m. and weren't especially keen about making room for a shutterbug, even a credentialed one. i shot from the front of the stage until a Fillmore staff member told me "three songs, buddy" or something like that (which seemed a bit unfair, as there were non-credentialed folks snapping away from the crowd, some using flash (gasp!). the only thing mentioned upon entry was "no flash," so i wasn't sure why this one particular staffer took it upon himself to enforce a rule which apparently mattered only to him.

anyway, i wasn't particularly happy with my shots, so i moved around a bit, away from the stage, and took a few more pics from the upstairs balcony and the back of the hall. eventually, i wound up on the right of the stage, which afforded a much better viewing angle. two times, Fillmore staffers came up to me, asked to see my photo pass, and left after i showed it to them. after getting some better shots than what i had before--i've always hated the three songs rule, since the performers tend to become more comfortable and relaxed the deeper they get into their set--who should appear but the same guy who sweated me before.

This time, he asked me to check in my camera, since apparently the fact that a) i had arranged my pass through both the venue and the band's management; b) no other staffers were concerned about the 'three songs rule'; and c) there were people in the audience taking pictures even as he was reading me the riot act, WITH FLASH, didnt matter to Mr. Power Tripper at all. (i suspect he's had the same job for 15-20 years and has given up any hope of ever being promoted, and now tries to make sure that credentialed photographers feel the extent of his bitterness, hate, and envy at being stuck in a dead-end job).

anyway, here's one of the shots i managed to take before the Fillmore Auditorium's resident Nazi got all SS on me. to me, it was worth being hassled, since the shot was better than what i had earlier.
D300, sigma 50-150 @ 125mm, f/2.8, 1/125, iso 1600.

jefflipsman
There are some really great shots this week, as usual. The ship photo by Gary McGhee is particularly striking, as is Shawn McFarlane's dock shot.
I was in NY this last week for a spring break trip. My daughter was in the back seat goofing with the point and shoot cameras. I grabbed this shot. (I wasn't driving.)

ofey_kalakar
I still have two rolls of Ilford film to process (D100 and PanF50) so for this weeks WedNEsDAY PIC I dug a picture out of my Aperture library from a couple years ago. I took this in Rome Italy, I forget which piazza (square) it was but the quality of the light was spectacular. I used a 35 f1.4 AiS lens on my FM3A. The film was Ilford HP5.

laurapond
@ Andrew Lynn- Great shot! I'm so jealous that you got to go to opening day! I live a few blocks away, and I can't wait until next sunday when I go for my first game of the season.
@ Brian Sprague- I spent the last few summers in Northern California in the Westwood/Susanville area working on my Aunt&Uncle's ranch. That's such a beautiful shot of the valley, it looks so peaceful.

D200 w/ Sigma 70-200 f/2.8. emiliogtz
Awesome shots today. Seriously, this threads just keep getting better and better. Lovely colors Matthew. Gary, I've been experimenting with motion-blurred clouds, not quite successfully since when I'm out there clouds refuse to move at an adequate pace and I just end up overexposing. Maybe this weekend, I just might get lucky. Awesome landscapes and nature shots. And Dennis, I don't think you're alone with your perception there. Hehe.

Jumping on the food bandwagon, here's one I took while enjoying a meal while deep at the south of Mexico. Superia 400, Nikon F4, 50mm f/1.8 wide open.

jose_angel
Rob, I always enjoy climbers` shots. Yours looks to be what we call a "reunion" (change of first of rope) over a glacier. I cannot find how this is called in english.
Certainly a good week. I must leave the computer, just to thank you for your kind comments.
