Rene, my condolences. It hurts to lose a long time friend. We lived with Carlo for about 12 years, and simply had to put him down February. It wasn't a difficult decision; it was the only thing to do for him.
The house was so empty without him that I immediately set out to locate another that, hopefully, would be like him. We now have Beamish living with us. Although I managed a respectable photo of Carlo, I am still trying with Beamish (AKA Paloma's Jabberwodk Slayer.

My condolences Rene',

We have yet to experience the loss of one of our dogs and it is something that I think about on occasion. Our oldest, rear right in the picture, seemed like he was getting close to giving up a while ago, but has ralleyed. He's been hit by a farm tractor, kicked by a dairy cow, run over by a 200+ pound hog, has arthritis, and can barely get up off the floor sometimes. Ask him if he wants to go for a walk and all the infirmities instantly disappear. Here I'm leaving them in the truck while I go in to the local diner for lunch. They were not very happy being left behind. One of our 5 is off at some competition or another when this picture was taken.

Again, I'm sorry about your loss.

I am so sorry for your loss. My dogs have always been a part of my family, and I understand how difficult this time can be. I am glad to hear that Jiroh had such an amazing life, that is what really counts for those dog years. :)

All my best,

Rene' . . . . I am terribly sorry to hear of your friend's passing. I have been there many times with my 'best friends'. It tears me apart each time. Dogs are great joys of life for me. Lukas, a Giant Schnauzer (photo) goes everywhere with me . . . to work etc. Each day he and I are together 24 hours. I can't imagine what will become of me if something happens. Just like Dekker before him, Axel before him, Abu etc etc. The amount of unconditional love they give is incredible. I wish you the best.

00SwFe-121059784.jpg.176b49b85ba5a44dc949ef762fef8774.jpg

Rene,
I know how you feel. Two years ago this week I had to put our Tess to sleep and it remains one of the saddest days of my life. Tess was a purebred APBT. My wife and I started our family with her. We had near nearly 14 years and she was by far the best dog I've ever been privileged to own. Now we have another pit and her name is Ruby. Although still a pup, I think she too will be a wonderful dog.
A good dog will offer a quality of relationship and loyalty seldom found with other humans. And if there is an afterlife, I hope my dogs are there too.

00SwI6-121077584.jpg.cdd9ac147402567fdbb29d13a11a36b5.jpg

Hi Rene'
I'm sorry to hear of your loss! Pets are such great companions...they always greet you with sincere excitement when you come home and never complain about anything. No wonder we are so attached to them! The tough thing is that we out live so many of them...but the rewards of having a pet outweigh those sad days of saying goodbye.
My son's first dog, Hunter, was hit by a car while he was playing with him in the yard (only a month after the photo). It was such a tragic experience...something my son will never forget. We since got another dog, which has been a great pet and a member of the family. But we'll always have special memories of Hunter, and I'll always have good memories of the pets I've owned over the years!

00Swfg-121245684.thumb.jpg.3982fb0c329278e9d6dec6abdfa60434.jpg

Rene', thanks for sharing your good memories of JIROH and creating this opportunity to see and read about so many wonderful animals. My wife and I had two Shetland Sheepdog littermates: Paris and his sister Heather. We put Heather down in January 2007, a couple of months before their 15th birthday. And just this past February 28, we put Paris down, one month to the day before his 17th birthday. Those were two very sad days, and the emptiness is still here, but we have many years of very good memories.
