justin_faso
I recently just bought a Rolleiflex from a friend and its a nice camera but the focusing screen is somewhat dark when trying to focus indoors. I'm pretty certain that it is the Automat MX with Xenon f3.5 lens, it senses the film when you load it so there is no lining up the film as you would with another TLR. Anyways is it possible to service these easily and replace the screen? I'd like to do it by myself, I'd hate to pay a repair place to do it but if its not that much, what the hell... Is there any other Rolleiflex's that would have a brighter screen and can be bought for under $400? It doesn't have to have the f2.8 lens just a brighter screen is fine.

Below is a photo of the camera I have:
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3431/3390030875_dac552e81f.jpg
rogerwb
Richard Oleson, a frequent contributor to this and other pnet forums has a variety available and will install for you if you wish. However; it is quite easy to do yourself.

david_l3
I have that same camera with original screen, and a friend also has one, but with a brighter screen. He changed the screen on his camera. His main comment was you need the right size jewelers screwdriver to take out the small screws. Some care in taking the hood off and it can be done according to him. I know how dim the screen is in low light, it's not easy to focus.
mskovacs
That's a XENAR lens. I would suggest both screen and mirror be replaced in most cases. You can shim the screen as a do-it-your-selfer but I much prefer to adjust the viewfinder lens focus which is more involved.
justin_faso
How do you take the screen off? Can you just take the four screws out of the WLF? What about the mirror?
